First off, please don't mistake this drum for the Vision series Sensitone. It's a great drum in it's own right, but the finish, hardware, and overall attention to detail is only professionally done on the Sensitone Elite. Mine has die-cast hoops and produces the most satisfying rimshot I've heard in years. I bought the 6.5" steel shell to compliment a vintage 13/16/22 Pearl kit and it fits perfectly in the mix. I also added an Evans Genery Dry head to give it punch without too much ring. Great for rock, but sensitive at lower volumes as well. Very versitile snare, but if you're specifically looking for that throaty, full attack in a very attractive, professional package, look no further.
I was in the market for a metal snare, ideally a deep 14". Eventually I settled on a shallow 5.5" drum, compromising due to price. After tuning it up and playing it, I couldn't be happier. This snare has a nice metal bite, but still generates a lot of warmth. The tuning range is wide, enabling me to get that deep thump I was looking for in a deeper shell, while still giving me the attack and response of the shallower shell. It's really the best of both worlds. Standing alongside my expensive Yamaha snare, this one is a fraction of the price, sounds different, but equal in every respect in terms of sound and quality. If you're looking for a good general-purpose snare drum for a decent price, check out the Pearl Sensitone. It's a great snare.
