I've played many drumsets over the course of 30 years of playing and this kit is by far the best kit out there for the money. It sounds as good if not better than ANY high end kit I've ever played. Everything from the finish, to the hardware, and the quality of the maple shells is unsurpassed in this price range. Actually, its unsurpassed in any price range. Why anyone would spend $2-$3,000 for a high end maple kit when they can get this for less than a $1,000 is beyond me. Why did Pearl cancel this series?Probably because it took sales away from their Masters series.
This is an overall great drum set. I've had it for a few days now, and its great. It came pretty much tuned where I wanted it, I just had to tighten the heads a little bit. I could not believe how quick it shipped either! Really great drums, I would suggest these drums to anybody looking for a kit, who wanted great quality but wont hurt the wallet too badly. !Pearl Rocks!
As the title mentions, the picture does not do justice for this kit. Totally high end material. The resonance on this kit rivals any kit out there. The blue is gorgeous. I was bummed when they ran out of the green but now I realize that by no means am I settling here. The hardware is awesome. Very heavy duty and doesn't pierce the toms to allow for more resonance. The bass drum punches through listeners' chests. If you are considering buying this, do it. This price is a steal. My only advice is perhaps some new heads if you don't like the overtones. However, tuning these toms will ensure that the kit sounds just fine without new heads. Trust me, you will love this thing and as long as you get some cases for this, it will last you a long time! Good luck!
I received my SMX today, and i could not be happier with it. The finish(mine is Marine Blue Fade) is beautiful, and all the hardware is sturdy and stylish. As for the sound; the bass is deep and punchy and the toms provide an awesome warm tone. This is a pro level kit at an intermediate/beginner level price. I play pearl, always have...always will.
I recently picked this kit up in the Marine Blue Fade and I am very impressed with the appearance, craftmanship, and the sound. The fade on this kit is breathtaking, and the hardware is all top notch, down to the Optimounts, nylon washers, and rubber gaskets on the lugs, and bass drum claws. I decided to get this kit instead of upgrading my old kit. I made the right decision. I have been playing Pearl drums for many years now, and not only do they look and sound great, but their customer service is second to none.
This is a solid kit, I have the fusion kit and got it for a graduation gift almost four years ago. This kit sounds great especially compared to my previous cb percussion kit. Great hardware and great drums, the green burst finish looks amazing but is hard to keep clean
This kit is amazing I got my kit in the summer of 2006. My kit has 8,10,12,14,16,18 in toms. I have played on a master kit, dw. yamaha recording custom and many other high end kit's. This kit sounds as good as any of the kit's just mentioned. I use evans g2 coated heads they sound amazing with this kit. The hardware is very sturdy too I bought a dw 5000 double bass pedal it works great on it. It also sounds good with zildjian cymbals. I use zildjian A customs ( 14,15,16,17,18,19 in crashes) 20in china 20in ping ride and 14 A custom mastersound hi-hats. Trust me the Pearl SMX-924HP is a great kit
I originally bought this fusion kit in January of 07 and fall in love with it from the first tuning. I have since purchased an 8" and 16" floor tom to add to the variability of sound and they sound great. In live applications with correct tuning these drums have excellent punch, clarity and tone. Each drum can be tuned either very high for a tight sound, or a bit lower for a fat wet sound. I prefer clear pinstripes with this kit over anything else at this point, but to each his own. This kit sounds excellent regardless of price and is easily comparable in quality to that of a Masters series. You wont be disappointed!!
I got my fusion-sized kit in 2003, when it was still SRX. The fact that SMX had Masters features sold me right there. The matching snare was out of stock at Guitar Center, but they suggested the Chad Smith signature, which blew me away when I played it. I immediately replaced the ProTones with Remo Clear Emperors, but I'm sure the ProTones would've still sounded great. The hardware (kick legs, lugs) is solid but still light, and the finish always gets window-lickers and mouth-breathers going. It still sounds incredible four years later! If you're semi-pro, but feel you're above Export, get SMX!
The Pearl SMX-924HP is an excellent sounding kit, even with the stock heads on it. I'll eventually change them to Evans G2's, but for now the ProTones are okay. The tone of the toms is warm and deep. The kick delivers plenty of punch, especially with an EMAD batter head on it. I'm very pleased with this kit and highly recommend it!
