This thing is a beast. I have never heard a sare with such a good range and tone. I love this thing. I have only had for 2 days and I can't stay away from it. I would recommend this snare to any musician.
This snare is killer. Best sound I've ever had with a maple. It has a great range of tone, it can sound like an area type snare or even get the pop of a brass, without the ping. Great snare for the anyone who is serious about their music.
My friend Robert has this snare. It is AMAZING! The BEST sound and is just awesome. I would totally buy it if I had the money! One of these days! But if you are serious about music, I say, BUY THIS SNARE!!
It can sound like a shotgun blast chopping down a tree. It's huge, it's massive, and has a great "wood" sound. I love it. I always get the drummers for other bands on gigs, come by and check it out. (It's not because of my drumming skills trust me; it's the sound blasting out of this snare.) It's not for everyone, and is completely over the top style wise, but, I'd recommend it for loud gigs, or louder bands. Piss off your guitar players properly, and get this snare. Also, I have used this for recording, and properly setup, I'm very happy with the results!
This snare really has it all. It doesn't matter what style you play with this snare, it matches beautifully with any style. The snare creates a large, warm sound, and when cranked somewhat high, it creates a boom of a sound that projects and gets the job done. Absolutly amazing snare!!
is amazing. I just got it a week ago for my birthday, and this thing rocks the house. I was expecting that it would be almost too loud, but this drum can fit almost any dynamic setting. Of course, because it is a 14 by 8, it can get LOUD (rimshots are beastly), but you can still throw a crisp 5-stroke roll in the mix and it will cut.
To be honest I have tried several snares and metal ones still remains the loudests around. But, this is as close as it gets. The combination of Maple with a sooo deep shell gives you proyection, loudness without givin up the warm maple tone. I was worried about overtones before purchasing it but with a two ply clear pre muffled head and a good tuning you can get a DRY yet LOUD and warm tone. very easy to fall in love with for an 80s band like mine. The one thing to improve: I would prefer a vertical strainer. Amazing finish by the way!!!
I have been playing drums for a couple of years now and this is by far the best snare drum i have ever played. It sounds like a gunshot and when tuned just right can be a great addition to any drummers arsenal. I don't think i will ever find another snare drum as great sounding as this one.
The Vinnie Paul 14x8 is the best snare drum investment I have ever made. The bearing edges are flawless, the fit and finish is true, and this drum combines the best of great volume and great tone. I love tuning it low and getting a big fat sound out of it. It sings, truly, Highly recommended.
i got this snare a couple days ago, i put my emperor x remo head on it and tightened it down and got one of the best wood tones ive heard. i was using a steel snare with the powerhouse head on it (aquarian) and it sounded great but it didnt have that wood sound. well anyway this snare has attitude and that great maple warmth. so by all means buy it.
Pearl did an amazing job when creating this drum! its sound is so amazing! whether you're smacking the crap out of it vinnie paul style, or even a light jazz, the drum responds beautifully! When you play with the snares off (i.e. like DANNY CAREY) the drum sings with a perfect tone! buy this drum will not dissapoint!
I am a pearl man, this snare rocks the house. Not only does it look and sound great it makes a drummer feel good playing it. I'm buying a second one for back up. 30 years of playing pearls are a treat. Thanks PEARL & Vinnie.
This is one awesome snare! If you tune it up real tight, and throw it in with some nice drums it sounds Great! Great versitility. You can get a great crack or real nice sensitivity. Cool Alex Van Halen tight snare sound! It wont burn a hole in your pocket either so one hint and piece of advice...BUY THIS PEARL SIGNATURE VINNIE PAUL SNARE DRUM!
Amazing, throw Remo falam head on it...theres nothing out there made by pearl that even comes up to this snare...worth every penny..
I have to admit that I didn't know the meaning of 'Attitude' until using this snare! Can you say LOUD?? I can feel this thing punching me in the chest when I play it. Amazing power and volume, yet dry at the same time. Too bad it doesn't include die-cast hoops and maybe a better strainer, but don't get me wrong-this is an awesome drum!
Well, the snakeskin is truly ugly, and a little too "badass" for my tastes. But that's nothing a little refinishing project can't take care of. Once you have that done, you can really appreciate the sound of this drum. Amazing full tone, and Pearl's quality is just outstanding. And since it's a discontinued product (Vinnie Paul's sinced moved to DDrum), you can get these snares at a great price. Do it!
This snare is exactly what I've been looking for in a sound, the quality and depth size were the reason for my purchase. 20 years ago I used a deep marching snare in a metal basement band and none of the 6.5 could emulate the sound that I once had until I played this. Worth every penny.
Been using it. It's probably the best Maple snare from Pearl, correction is. As for Aquarian Powerhouse heads DON'T use that head on anything. Better sound is achieved on any snare with a High Energy. I prefer High Energy over Studio X, The dampening coat produces a better sound.
By far the best and loudest snare drum I've ever owned. I've been playing drums for over thirty-five years, and this thing rules. I play a Pearl birch shell set, which is loud in itself, so this fits right in. Two hours into playing it, I switched the head on it to a Evans Genera Dviry with the air vents, and it sounds even better. It sounds big, fat, and funky. Amazing rim shots too!! I was going to buy it last December as a Christmas present for myself, but I waited which turned out to be a wise move since they've since been discounted. Saved myself at least a hundred bucks. It's makes for a great conversation piece also. Everyone so far loves the look, and size of it. At this price, grab it quick! You'll never make a better investment.
This snare is awesome! I never want to go back to steel snares again. To describe it, its got all of the attack of a steel snare but the "ping" is gone due to the maple shell. Its thick and deep sounding. Ive only had it a couple weeks and cant wait to explore it even more. Sounds good with NO MUFFLING, and that says a lot. Its loud but with tone.
