first off, I play brutal technical death metal, so I have been eagerly searching for a snare that has a great LOUD pop with tons of bounce, and some warmer undertones; after trying out all the snares in GC to see which one sounded good for my genre, I was oddly drawn to this snare, mostly because you could hear it from a mile away, and it had a firecracker sound to it; just what I was looking for, now I'm going to go pick one up and put some nice heads on it.

I have been playing in small clubs, bars, with rock bands for over 20 years. I currently play 90's rock and I have been using a Pork Pie Big Black that sounds perfect every time. Unfortunately it is a little loud and picked up in vocal mics in smaller clubs. I trusted Pork Pie and I purchased this snare to have a good sound at a lower volume. Definitely quieter and has a good sound when tuned properly but drops out of tune after a few songs. I find myself trying to frantically retune between songs. I have tried plastic lug locks which helped but didn't solve the problem (they spin with the lugs). I like the drum enough to keep trying but worrying it was a wasted purchase.

Comments about Pork Pie Little Squealer Maple Snare Drum:

I played this bad girl and I had to convince myself that paying my bills was more important than buying this gal. You can dig into this girl and she'll let you get as hard as you want without choking-up. Also has a beautiful overtone that is complimentry and alows the drum to be heard. The hardware, finish and everything are beautiful. Shes the girl wearing the slinky black dress that will give you the night of your life.

Comments about Pork Pie Little Squealer Maple Snare Drum:

I've had this for over 10 years. This little guy is very versatile, sturdy, and has a blasting sound. I play mostly rock with clear heads. Not sure how it would sound on softer music, but it proyects really well for Rock. I always get compliments after my shows about the snare sound. May yield some overtones if not tuned properly, but that's something that can be arranged.

Very Good Deal; A Solid Snare

          By LexBravaryMusic

Comments about Pork Pie Little Squealer Maple Snare Drum:

I bought this snare used (I believe someone bought it and returned it in the same day) for about half price. I usually don't buy things spare of the moment but I wanted an all maple snare and had enjoyed playing on a kit with a 12" primary snare before. It was a gamble, but man did it pay off. This snare its bright, crisp, responsive, and clear. It is tunable and holds fairly well. Every week or two slight adjustments have to be made to return, but I mean these are slight adjustments. It sounds good tightly tuned as well, and really snaps for reggie/funk styles. I am not a metal person but you could probably use it for metal; it projects quite a bit over the kit if need be. To give an idea of the quality of this drum, it was recorded with a Pearl Master's kit and didn't seem at all out of place. I couldn't have been happier with the purchase. The only problem I really have with this snare is that the snares loosen up over a few minutes of playing (7-15ish). I just tighten them back up, and it hasn't been too big of an issue. This could be only a problem on my snare, and is probably an easy fix, so don't fret too much. All in all, if you're on a budget and need something tunable, with a solid maple tone, this drum can deliver with some knowledgeable tweaking. It has my endorsement.

Didn't have funds to swap heads but even out of the box this snare sounded quite good for my not-so-high standards. It's a bit on the small side, but I think I'm slowly getting accustomed to it.

Comments about Pork Pie Little Squealer Maple Snare Drum:

Pork Pie Little Squealer Maple Snare Drum (12X5") PROS: Smoking price, great sound, versatile tuning range, well cut edges, black hardware looks nice, heads made by Remo, 8 lugs, thick plies.MINOR CONS: Not made in USA, "Taiwanese maple" doesn't sound as solid as American or Canadian Rock Maple, snare throw action feels a little cheap, included snares should be upgraded, "stamp" style air grommet (instead of threaded), hoops feel a little cheap, not super sensitive with included heads/snares, reinforcement rings would have been a welcome touch for more projection.OVERALL: This snare is a great value and would fit well in anyone's stable. It tunes down well with a moongel for a fat sound and tunes high for a nice solid crack. I rehearsed 3 times and gigged once on it and it performed really well against my Ayotte kit and Paiste Signatures. Those looking for perfection should consider investing in die cast hoops, a coated Emperor batter head or equivalent and a set of decent snare wires. Do that and you will have a 90% drum at 25% price!

Comments about Pork Pie Little Squealer Maple Snare Drum:

I built a bebop kit with a 16" bass drum and wanted an equalyl small snare drum to match the size. I've had this drum for a week now and it has supplanted a brass 4x13" and a maple 7x14" snare as my favourite drum. The wood is of good quality, the lamination and bearing edges are professional, and the hardware is top-notch. I repalced the batter head with a Genera HD and this drum will tune to any range now, from deep rock snare to high-pitched secondary piccolo. I never thought of using a 12" snare in a full-scale setting, but this drum projects and sounds consistantly great. If you're thinking of buying a second drum and already have a 14" snare, you just can't go wrong with the 12" Little Squealer.

Comments about Pork Pie Little Squealer Maple Snare Drum:

I have owned and played lots of snare but the 12" by 5" little squealer is by far the best that I have experienced. Though I have never played it tuned low, when you torque the head high It splits eardrums in the back of the venue. In addition to the fantastic crack that this snare offers It still remains to have that warm Maple tone. If it helps my favorite hear to put on that drum is the Evans 12" st dry because it is vented hope this helps

Comments about Pork Pie Little Squealer Maple Snare Drum:

I bought this snare a couple weeks ago and was just plain impressed with it on my Yamaha set. It is the perfect snare drum for raggae styles. If you slap a moongel pad on it, it is perfect for anything else. Though the snare seems very small, it is quite powerful against anything else and that is why I use it as my main snare. If you want a snare that sounds like Chad Sexton's or Adrian Young's, this snare is 100%!!!!

I bought this 13x7 Pork Pie Little Squealer used because I needed an upgrade from my Ddrum Ash snare. Huge step up.I tuned it really high, it has such a tight crack. Great snare for metal drummers. The only downside I have seen so far is that it seems to be warping a little. The two hoops are no longer parallel to each other. Still sounds great somehow. Recommended.

Comments about Pork Pie Little Squealer Maple Snare Drum:

I bought this snare from my local music shop a few months ago for use as a secondary snare for my Sonor Force 3003 kit. After a day of playing it I switched it to my main snare. This snare drum has incredible depth and projection for being so small. It sounded great even with the heads that came with it. Now I have an Evans Genera HD Dry on top with an Evans Hazy 200 on the bottom and it sounds perfect. It has a quick response and a cutting attack without being too bright. Also, the rimshots sound incredible. If you want a quality snare drum without spending a lot of cash, this is it.

The squealer lives up to its name. The quality is not American (made in Taiwan), but the sound is great! The snares can be adjusted to the type of time you want (vintage, tight, etc.). The head is decent, making the snare playable straight out the box! I recommend this 12" snare for any player looking for a tight loud sound to add to their set!

Impressive little snare. The finish is not perfect, but good enough, and for this price you cannot ask for more. Cranked up high, its very loud and has a higher fundamental tone than a 14" snare, so is great for punk or metal, as it really does cut thru everything else. Its quite a value.
