Holy cow, this baby sings. It has a very nice high pitched crack when tuned up (which is how I have it) and it still has GREAT sensitivity and buzz. I can't quite figure it out, but for some reason, if I ever need a quick short hit, I can make it play a quick note with no resonance at all after the initial impact, but if I take that same stroke and apply it to a fast rool, it resonates amazingly. Also, the rim shots are the best I've ever heard on a snare, and I've played on everything from Tama Starclassic Bubingas to Pearl References. Nothing beats this snare. I'm sure if you tuned it down, it would be GREAT for jazz because of it's sensitivity. Unless you are in an 80's hair-metal band, I can't think of a genre this snare COULDN'T be played with. Don't let the name fool you, it does a WHOLE LOT more than just squeal (although it is quite good at that...). I'm thinking of buying it's smaller counterpart for a side snare, although I don't see why I would need to because of the vast amount of sounds I can get out of it. The only problem I encountered with it is when I put a new head on it, one of the lugs kept becoming really really loose, but that was right by where I was doing rim shots, so it might be due to that and the new head that hadn't stretched yet. I also had it just sitting without any use for a few weeks and the lugs loosened up a bit over that time. Despite that, though, the lugs are very easy to work with, which makes that looening thing not a problem at all, and the switch is extremely smooth. I can even turn it on and off with my knee while I'm playing. In other words, GET THIS SNARE!!!!!btw, put a Remo Ambassador singly-ply white coated head. A thin head is a MUST to allow this drum resonate to it's fullest potential.

everyones reviews said it was the best snare ever, but i cant figure it out like they did. i put a reverse dot evans head on it and ive been tuning this thing up and down for 3 months and cant figure it out. too high and its choked with no ghost notes, too low and its weak and airy with weird vibes. but the fact that i cant tune it doesnt make it a bad snare, everyone else loves it. im just not as impressed as they are.

I bought this about a little over a year ago because I was tired of my stock snare, one of the best buys for my set yet! I play hardcore/metalcore/metal music and this snare has such an explosive and loud sound. It fits perfectly with all types of my music as well!! Totally worth it!

Great drum, unique look and versatile sound. Best for medium to loud volume music. My issue is with the snare throw off... It loosens up from the inside causing the snares to looses tension very easily. It became very annoying during gigs. Eventually I removed the throw off from the drum and discovered under the rubber gasket two brass screws. The lower one was about three turns loose allowing extra play in the throw off. I tightened it up and the issue was solved! I would recommend keeping this in mind to other drummers experiencing snare loosening issues. If the problem comes back I will be installing a lock or star washer to see if that solves the issue permanently.

Comments about Pork Pie Little Squealer Snare Drum:

I've had numerous snares for live and recording purposes and this one seems to be my go to drum. The maple shell and all the vents combine to give the drum a cutting crack sound that rivals high end models. The snare throw off went out on me pretty quickly, so I put on a DW magnetic one, done deal. I use an Aquarian high energy head for heavy music, and an ambassador coated for rock/pop with an evans hazy 300 on the underside and this drum works at any volume. For the money it's a smokin' deal on a good snare.

Comments about Pork Pie Little Squealer Snare Drum:

This snare is just the best. I have played many different snare types, brands, sizes, etc. And this is by far the best. Not only can this snare get loud, but sensitive as well. You can barely tap the snare head and get a good snare sound out of it. The vents (holes on the sides) let sound escape quickly, so you don't get any ringing or ugly sounding overtones. I put a Genera Dry head on the top, and I get a snare sound that has a good crack, but has a good, fat presence as well. This is the snare sound you have been looking for, the one most drummers want and dream of getting! Get this little piggy today!

Comments about Pork Pie Little Squealer Snare Drum:

I have been looking for a nice snare for almost a year. I took my time, and I didn't let the budget affect me. This snare exceeded all of my requiernments, and best of all, it's affordable. I love everything about this snare. The sound, quality, value, look. If you want something different that is not a 14x6 snare, consider this snare. Very versitily and sounds awesome.
This snare is a beast. The 13" diameter makes it able to be tuned very nicely. I like it medium tight, and very dry sounding. The 7" depth gives it a.... well a deeper sound. The vents allow the snare to sound dryer by letting the air escape faster. It also makes ghost notes stick out and it increases overall volume. If you put the evans HD Dry or the G2 Coated, you can't go wrong with the sound. It sounds like Underoath's sound for the snare. Amazing.
The craftmanship is amazing. The snare sounds awesome, and unless I do something stupid with it, I doubt it will ever break. The hard rock maple exterior gives it a warm but aggressive sound.
This is the best part about the snare. It sounds like a snare at four times the price when tuned correctly. You get a lot of bang for your buck. Unlike other companies, this snare is not made in China.

Comments about Pork Pie Little Squealer Snare Drum:

So I decided to buy this snare four years ago to replace the stock snare I had on my Pearl kit. What a wise decision, this snare is pretty great for the price. It's fantastic for cutting through the mix because it is one of the loudest 13 inch snares I have ever heard. It can be tuned to a low dry sound or you can crank it up to sound like a piccolo it's all up to your preference. The only thing I do not like about this snare which is a pretty big catch is that it does not hold its tuning. Every time I play my kit my snare sounds different which is a pain because of all the time I have to spend putting it back to the tuning I want. Don't get me wrong this snare sounds great for the price, but I would save my money for a more consistent snare.

For the price this thing is unbelieveable. Sounds fat and has such a loud crack and the stock heads weren't bad either. I slapped some new ones on anyway and it sounded even better. I spent a long time researching on low price but high quality snares and i'm so glad i went with this one. BUY IT
