Overall, I gave it a bomb shell rating of 10 because you expect the heads to suck because they're stock heads and you can always replace them if you like. But I've been using this snare as it came, all I did was tune it to my liking and that was it. I've been playin it ever since.
I'm happy to say i own this snare and use it as my primary snare at my church or whatever church we fellowship at! I've gotten nothing but compliments.
The quality of the snare is very well for it to be for the price. I must say I'm well pleased. It's my favorite and the first snare that I bought myself other then my pearl m1330 piccolo
For the price your getting a lot more then your paying for usually you expect things to be not so great when your payin so little for them and the ones your paying so much for to be perfect. This is isn't the case with this pork pie little squealer snare drum!

Overall i gave it a 9, just because the stock heads suck, but most all stock heads do, but other than that im super stoked to have this as my new primary snare!!!!
Just got this snare in the mail, very pleased on the "look" real clean, sturdy construction, and a great deal! i bought this on 4th of july weekend when it was on sale for i took the shot and bought it.
seems to be well manufactured, on had it for about and hour or so, so i cant tell you a year from now how it will be but i can say my mail man dropped it over the fence and you would never have known! its like 2x the weight of my maple snare and feels like you can back the heck out of it!

Comments about Pork Pie Little Squealer Snare Drum:

Was looking for that FAT steel sound without excessive ringing overtones and without getting butchered at the boxoffice so to speak. I know I can spend $$$ to get what I need, but...
      the setup,
I like both Evans Genera HD Dry Coated or Remo powerstroke 3 batter side and Evans Hazy 300 Snare Side. I use Puresound snare wires and interchange all the different windings, syles, and metals to taste
Having said that, I bought a 14 x 6.5 DW Collector's Series Black Nickel over Brass. Not steel but was striking out on affordable steel snares that didnt ring like a bell. Like the sound but maybe a little TOO much like my DW maple it was being partnered with.
Then... I got this hundred buck Pork Pie. Nothing to loose right? WOW! Perfect sound (for me) at all tunings from waterbed loose to nickle bouncing tight. Steel snare sound without the (excessive) ringing overtones! (you know what I mean, just the ones that make it a steel snare) I did however change the snare wires right off but thats just knowing IMHO they will be better than whatever is on it stock so...
Best pound for pound value in the store. Great looking too! (hate the name though...)

Comments about Pork Pie Little Squealer Snare Drum:

This drum is well made, looks great, and sounds fantastic after a few minutes of tuning. The drumheads that come on the drum are fine. They are Remo ambassadors, with the Pork Pie logo. Just tune the resonant head tight, and the batter medium tight, and the drum comes to life. It is more controlled, and dry than other metal snares that I have played. I have been using it on my gigs recently, and I have had many compliments from band members, and soundmen alike. I have an arsenal of snare drums, and this one is currently my workhorse, regardless of price.

Comments about Pork Pie Little Squealer Snare Drum:

Great sounding and very well made drum for the price. The only things that let it down are the stock heads and the thrrow-off. I changed the heads to Evans SD14 batter and Evans Hazy 300 resonant and I'm now very happy with the sound. The throw is functional, but has a cheap feel to it which is in contrast to the rest of the drum which is solid and well built. Anyway, I still like this drum and would recommend it to anyone looking to add to their snare drum collection.

Comments about Pork Pie Little Squealer Snare Drum:

I read a lot of glowing reviews before buying and now I have to agree. What a fantastic drum. Very well made (in Taiwan) - nothing about it seems cheap except the price. Have used on restaurant and rock club gigs and in both cases it worked great - sensitive but also capable of plenty of volume with no choking. I think the fact the fairly heavy shell is painted a matte flat black helps dampen just the right amount the nasty overtones some cheap thinner chromed steel snares can have, but it still has a very throaty musical ring when using no muffling on the batter head. Smack it in the center and it's pretty dry and fat, then move toward the edge with a rimshot for more ring & cut. It's a workhorse - sounds good for recording too. Very nice tuning range. I've always loved Ludwig metal snares but this Pork Pie drum gives my 70's Supraphonic a run for its money. A no-brainer if you're at all hesitant and shopping for a metal snare.

I wasn't expecting this kind of sound from an inexpensive drum. After I tuned it medium-tight on top and bottom, this snare sang right out. It is very responsive and bright. You can hear every stroke. I haven't had a steel snare in years, preferring maple for the mellow sound and relative quiet. This snare fits right in with the best sounding of my snares. I have never bought a Pork Pie product before. I won't hesitate in the future. I use this snare as my main at my unmiked church gig and it cuts, projects, and sounds great. Get one today!

Saw this on MF for a great price and couldn't pass it up. I figured what the heck. When it arrived I was actually quite impressed. Weight is substantial. Quality seemed good for the price. I changed out the batter head, and while doing so noticed the hoops are heavy and seem of good quality. I put a renaissance Ambassador on the top and cranked it up. Great sensitivity, and minimal ring. It's amazingly sensitive. Tone is nice, crisp. The through is decent and works well enough. The matte finish is good quality. Overall this is an amazing deal for the price.

Comments about Pork Pie Little Squealer Snare Drum:

This is the only auxillary snare I ever sprang for because I liked it so much. It's a sleeper snare. No one sees it coming.
This is a good little snare. When it arrived, it was buried in the snow at the bottom of the stairs, so I always think it's some sort of treasure I unearthed. The stock heads (top and bottom) are beyond horrible. All of the people reviewing this based the quality of the drum on the throw away heads it came with. WHY? I first changed the top head to a Remo Emperor X Reverse Dot and it still sounded like I was hitting a plastic bag (this proves HOW bad the stock heads are). I was hoping to save the Pork Pie pig logo on the head, but it had to go bye-bye. One Remo Clear on bottom and WHAZOW. POW! BANG BANG! PERFECT. MINT. ACE. Anyway, it's a good snare now. My other snare is a Gretsch Catalina Mod, and the Pork Pie is much deeper without any RING that cheap snares are so good at having. The lugs are better than average, and I fly with it in rain, snow and sun and it always stays in tune. My Gretsch is great, but I always have to play with the tuning. I don't switch around between songs or double the snare, I swap these 2 out regularly depending on my mood. But more and more I use the Pork Pie because the deeper tone gives my drums more shape. Drummers always ask about it and think it's a high-end drum when they see it's a Pork Pie. Get it. Good investment for a SLEEPER SNARE.
I love the quality. NEVER goes out of tune. Solid for any drum.
I think it's the least expensive drum Pork Pie makes. Get it before they figure it out and charge more!
