Overall, I gave it a bomb shell rating of 10 because you expect the heads to suck because they're stock heads and you can always replace them if you like. But I've been using this snare as it came, all I did was tune it to my liking and that was it. I've been playin it ever since.
I'm happy to say i own this snare and use it as my primary snare at my church or whatever church we fellowship at! I've gotten nothing but compliments.
The quality of the snare is very well for it to be for the price. I must say I'm well pleased. It's my favorite and the first snare that I bought myself other then my pearl m1330 piccolo
For the price your getting a lot more then your paying for usually you expect things to be not so great when your payin so little for them and the ones your paying so much for to be perfect. This is isn't the case with this pork pie little squealer snare drum!

Just got this snare in the mail, very pleased on the "look" real clean, sturdy construction, and a great deal! i bought this on 4th of july weekend when it was on sale for i took the shot and bought it.
seems to be well manufactured, on had it for about and hour or so, so i cant tell you a year from now how it will be but i can say my mail man dropped it over the fence and you would never have known! its like 2x the weight of my maple snare and feels like you can back the heck out of it!

        Good snare. Nothing special.

Comments about Pork Pie Little Squealer Snare drum:

This is the only auxillary snare I ever sprang for because I liked it so much. It's a sleeper snare. No one sees it coming.
This is a good little snare. When it arrived, it was buried in the snow at the bottom of the stairs, so I always think it's some sort of treasure I unearthed. The stock heads (top and bottom) are beyond horrible. All of the people reviewing this based the quality of the drum on the throw away heads it came with. WHY? I first changed the top head to a Remo Emperor X Reverse Dot and it still sounded like I was hitting a plastic bag (this proves HOW bad the stock heads are). I was hoping to save the Pork Pie pig logo on the head, but it had to go bye-bye. One Remo Clear on bottom and WHAZOW. POW! BANG BANG! PERFECT. MINT. ACE. Anyway, it's a good snare now. My other snare is a Gretsch Catalina Mod, and the Pork Pie is much deeper without any RING that cheap snares are so good at having. The lugs are better than average, and I fly with it in rain, snow and sun and it always stays in tune. My Gretsch is great, but I always have to play with the tuning. I don't switch around between songs or double the snare, I swap these 2 out regularly depending on my mood. But more and more I use the Pork Pie because the deeper tone gives my drums more shape. Drummers always ask about it and think it's a high-end drum when they see it's a Pork Pie. Get it. Good investment for a SLEEPER SNARE.
I love the quality. NEVER goes out of tune. Solid for any drum.
I think it's the least expensive drum Pork Pie makes. Get it before they figure it out and charge more!

Sounds great but slightly missed the mark on quality

Comments about Pork Pie Little Squealer Snare drum:

Despite the mechanical setbacks, I really love this drum. The sound is exactly what I was after, it looks great, and it was an amazingly stupid deal at the time. I'll leave the description of the sound to other reviewers, as that's what ultimately sold me on the purchase.
Exactly what you'd expect from a snare drum, no more, no less.
Everything about the build is great. The parts are all sturdy and clean. The finish is great. However, I had to return the first one I got because four of the tension rods and/or lugs had messed up threads. It was impossible to get them finger tight, and then I really had to force them once I switched over to the key. I don't know if the lugs were tapped wrong and stripping the tension rods or if the problem started with badly threaded rods.

The replacement I got was in much better shape, but there were still one or two rods that feel stiff going in. It's not bad enough to send back a second time though, and I managed to get a good tuning on my first try. Still can't really give it full marks though.
I got it for stupid deal of the day, so yeah

        Great gig-worthy drum

Comments about Pork Pie Little Squealer Snare drum:

Great build quality, looks great, sounds great.
Got my Little Squealer today. Tuned up the stock Taiwan heads with batter at 87 and reso at 78 on the Drumdial. Sounds great even with the stock heads. I'll keep them until the batter wears out. I would feel comfortable bringing it to any performance. I have quite a few other top of the line snare drums that often sit on the shelf but I will use this for my band practice kit.
Tuning rods have both metal and nylon washers. Throwoff is beefier than what you would expect to find on a Taiwan drum and gives me no cause for concern or gig worthiness.
        It's the best $$ I ever spent!

        Squealer

Comments about Pork Pie Little Squealer Snare drum:

Overall, this drum is fantastic. Easy to tune ( I don't know why but the nylon washers seem to make it so easy!) It sounds great tuned up real tight or a little looser for that fat, wet sound that I love. You will probably want to replace the heads, I got an Evans ST Dry and it takes out a lot of the nasty overtones. Overall, this thing is as good as you will find without paying $500-$1000 for a DW, Black Beauty or some other boutique snare. This is a high quality snare with features rivaling the high end snare for an entry level price. GET IT.
Black powder coating is awesome. Throw off is effortless. I found this drum to be very easy to tune and it sounded pretty good straight out of the box. Sounded even better once I replaced the heads and tuned it up.
This thing is rock solid. It weighs a ton, which I like, and the features are all top notch. I only gave this 4 stars because I did have an issue with one of the lugs. I could not get it to tune. I had to crank it much tighter than the rest to get it in tune. I was worried I was going to damage the shell. Of course, MF took care me like they always do. I called and told them the problem and they told me to send it back in. I sent it back and they sent me a new one 2 days later. Even paid for the shipping both ways. New one worked like a dream. Couldn't be happier
Got this thing on the Stupid Deal of the Day, and it was an absolute steal. I would have paid full price for this drum and been completely satisfied.

Comments about Pork Pie Little Squealer Snare drum:

What a great Snare. I bought it thinking I would have a great backup, but it is my primary snare. iT TUNED PERFECT out of the box, but i did replace the top head with a Aquarian texture coated head, great sound, great value, and a home run all the way.
Love the black Powdercoated finish, and the heft of this drum. The strainer and throw off are smooth, and the nylon washers making tuning a pleasure
        well made
It was the best buy i have made for my drums

        Little Squealer

Comments about Pork Pie Little Squealer Snare drum:

Overall, I'd say buy this snare drum if you don't have money to blow. It sounds great, looks great, it even smells pretty good. Anyway, if you are a drummer on a budget looking for a good brass snare, this might just be the one.
It's a snare drum, so the features are there, good throw off, nice wires, good lugs, good starting head too.
It's not the best snare drum out there, but it certainly is good at this price. People complain that it is ringy, and yes, it is, but it is a brass snare so what did you expect? The tone is great. It sounds almost exactly like the snare drum in Handlebars by Flobots.
Great value, it is still a great price.

        99 $. WTF

        By Uncle Fuzz-fVls2

        from Mid-West

Comments about Pork Pie Little Squealer Snare drum:

I picked this up for 99$ (and so can you) as a side snare/extra at the gig snare and now I sit awake at night wondering if I should use it as my primary snare. I use a high end 7 ply maple snare for the most part but I've always loved metal snares and this is a good one. It has the sensitivity you would expect from a good metal snare. Strong highs and mids. But it's also void of a lot of the harsh overtones present in a lot of steel snares (powder coating?). I would recommend a head change and moon gel to taste. Build quality is simple but nice. Tuning range is good. I've seen two bad reviews on this snare that left me confused. One had snare wires break, which I've never seen happen under regular circumstance on any snare, and the other didn't like the sound. They didn't really say what about the sound they didn't like but hey, sound is subjective. My feeling is with some serviceable heads and the ability to tune a drum you'll have no complaints. Reminds me of an acrolite on steroids. 99 dollars. You can't go wrong here.
