I bought these at the recommendation of fellow drummers, but mainly of the guy at my local music shop. They truly are great for when sticks are too loud and brushes are too soft. I have used them at many coffee houses and other unplugged-style gigs. I also use them in my home to practice because they are similar to regular drumsticks but not quite as loud. They provide a great sound on contact (all the rods hitting together) but they wear easily. I play daily and within a week the rods started to break individually and pieces were all over the room. I find that some duct or medical tape wrapped several times around the VERY TIPS helps this. Don't put it more than a half inch behind the tips or the problem will continue. Overall, I recommend them as an addition to your drum stick arsenal. I haven't tried any other Rods products but I plan to in the near future.

My main issue is sound and duribility. If you're desperate for a silencer tool, Just buy a set of mufflers and use a regular pair of wooden sticks. The problem with sound is that nothing sounds as full or rich while using the bamboo hot rods. That's not my main problem though, I could cope with the sound. It's the duribility that is a never-ending problem. Before our band obtained working amps and monitors I had to play much more quietly. I played fairly lightly for an hour and there was just a couple pieces remaining. So My main recomendation is just to purchase amplifiers to kill some of the drum volume or if you can't afford it just pick up mufflers.

Comments about Pro-Mark Hot Rod Sticks:
I paid 1/2 the price of what I have paid before in my local music store. The same PROMARK hot rods and the same quality (not seconds) as far as I can tell.

Comments about Pro-Mark Hot Rod Sticks:
These are okay sticks. The ARE Hot Rods and a few outer dowels can break if you try to play too heavy. Very good if for light low-disturbance sound.
I recommend adding an extra tap ring a inch or two below the tips for extra protection.
Comments about Pro-Mark Hot Rod Sticks:
These sticks are well made, cushioning for your hands is outstanding. Plus, while you are idle in between songs - they make a great back scratcher - ha!!!
Worth it all
Comments about Pro-Mark Hot Rod Sticks:
If you use them as intended, they'll do the job.
Good medium between wire brushes and sticks. Nice for gigs where you have to play quieter.
If you play electronic drums and cymbals, they'll last for ages. If you play Acoustics, they'll get hammered in a short time. Metal cymbals are these stick's worst enemies.
A bit pricey, I think, for what you get, but you probaly already know that, since you've gone through several sets of these before.

Can't compair them to any thing else outside of some Nylon brushes i once used. I like these a nice step between sticks and brushes.

Musicians friend provides quality, and I mean quality products, I was surprised
keeps drumskins from getting so dirty
Comments about Pro-Mark Hot Rod Sticks:
They even fit in my spare drumstick holder clamped to my HH. I bought 2 sets not sure of durability and I am finding out that these two pairs should last me atleast a year.
I have played these sticks now for several days. Show no signs of damage (all rods are intact). Perfect for playing lighter but not so soft as brushes would be..good middle ground.
I didn't bother to price check these, as I know that local stores for me tend to be at the retail listed by MusiciansFriend.

I love these things! I just wish they had a longer shelf life! I was playing with these (brand new out of the box) so I could hear my headphones one day, and they didn't even last one song! I guess La Villa Strangiato was to much for them... Hahaha! Anyway, for unplugged jams or small venues, these are way cool. They sound great on drums and cymbals, and they have a great weight and balance to them.I'll keep buying and breaking these babies!
Comments about Pro-Mark Hot Rod Sticks:
These are great to use if you play in low to medium volume gigs and they really do give everything a nice sound. I like them because I can really get a large dynamic of volume with them pretty easily. I noticed a few folks complain about the rods breaking or being chipped or not sounding good on your snare. Do this - about and inch down from the top of the stick, wrap about and inch wide peice of duct take around 2-3 times, make sure its a tight wrap. This really extends the life of them and allows you to get more crack out of your snare and little more precision out of your symbals.

Perfect!
These are great for playing live acoustic shows. I have also done some recording with them. Great cymbal washes!
