I am a drummer and got this set for my Grandson. As I put it together I was amazed at the quality for the price paid. Realize that it is not a professional set of drums, and is made for kids. That being said, they are chromed nicely, no sharp edges. The lugs and bolts are threaded well. The shells are laminated wood, and finished very well. The stands and tom mounts have locks just like the larger sets. The bass legs are an octagon no slip design which keeps them in place. The hardware is pretty heavy for this size set. The snare drum has a functioning adjustable throw off that actually takes the snares away from the bottom head. The bass pedal and the hi-hat pedals are a little thin but are both chain drive. They could have made these pedals just a bit heavier without added cost. The bass drum beater is adjustable and four sided. It has a nice spring back feel. Included are a drum key and a pair of child size drumsticks. The threads don't strip out when tuning the drums. The finishing touches are pretty nice for the price. The drum heads are adequate for a start up set of drums. They are all one ply clear except for the front bass head of course. They will dent, but they tune well. It helps to muffle them a bit with an internal cloth band or tape. They seem to tune lower without a marching drum ring if you do. This would have been a straight 5 star review if not for the one weak spot that all child size drums have in common....The Cymbals !The cymbals are paper thin and sound like a pie tin being hit. The hi-hat cymbals don't close together properly right out of the box. After just a few strikes, the crash is pretty bent up. If they would make them just 1/32" thicker they could solve this problem. With that being said, they are still DEFINITELY worth the money. It is a set that a child will be able to actually play for a few years to see if he or she has the interest to move up to a full size set. The cymbals and drum heads should be replaced as soon as enough interest is shown by your child. I would say it's best for ages 3 to 7 or 8. When their feet can reach the pedals of a full size set....it's time to move on !

Upon pulling this kit out of the box, it was clear to me that it was cheaply built. It didn't quite have the feel of a toy drum kit, but neither was it a solid instrument. The tone of the drums, once tuned, was terrible, and the hardware extraordinarily flimsy. One piece even arrived broken--a weld on the drum pedal had broken in transit. That was enough for me to send the whole kit back and start a new search. Anyone looking for a quality junior drum kit should check out both PDP, which is DW's junior kit, or Ludwig. I went with Ludwig, and am pleased with the quality of the hardware and tone of the drums (both great, for a junior kit).

For what it's worth, I'm a drummer who plays a custom built kit (built by George Jacobs in San Francisco) as well as a Yamaha DTXtreme (the original). Trust me, the Pulse kit is not worth even $50.

Comments about Pulse 5-Piece Junior Drum Set:

When ordering this set for my daughter, I thought it would be a nice toy partially due to the low price of the product. I was quite shocked by the relatively high quality of the hardware, and how closely it replicates my full sized set.

I bought this for myself and am very pleased. I'm a guitar player and was tired of jamming to a drum machine, so I got this little set so I can record myself laying down a beat, then jam against it. I think the quality is awesome for the price.

I'm no expert. Don't even play. Don't care. My son is stoked to bang on these things all day. When he learns to be better, he may tell me they suck. But he woke up to a drum set from the big man and he can't stop talking playing them!

I had them shipped to my parents house so I could show up Christmas Eve and put them together for him to see in the morning. Opened the box and no assembly instructions. I'm a carpenter so I figured on being able to work through it, but I could've been in bed earlier if there was something to make it more efficient.

Either way, he is happy so I am happy.

I bought this for my Grandkids that are showing an interest in playing. I have been playing drums for 46 years and have owned Slingerland, Rogers, Grestch, Pearl, Yamaha & Tama. This little kit is very well made for the money.

                                Rockin' little drum set

Comments about Pulse 5-Piece Junior Drum Set:

One could spend a lot more on a set that doesn't fit their child or is not as good of quality. The set up is pretty easy if you know what you are doing. (there are no instructions) If you need help, there is loads of stuff on the internet to steer you in the right direction. Putting on the drum head and tightening it down is like putting on a tire. Go across the head, not around it. Turn a little bit at a time. Tap around the head with a stick about 3 or so inches in from the edge as you turn the drum key. Be patient and make the head that you want to hit a tighter than the other side.
3 Toms, a snare and a bass drum. Two cymbals with decent stands. Real wood shells, Nice nickle finishes.
The Drum Heads are not the greatest and the cymbals are very thin, but it is a good priced set for what it is... a starter drumset for children. I put some painters tape on the heads to make them last longer and to help with dampening a bit.
Good value. Try to get it on sale.

My son who recieved the set loves it and so do all the other kids in our family.
My only issue with the set is that there was a lot of assembly with no directions. It is a good thing I am mechanically minded but it still took me 1 and 1/2 hours to put the set together.
It is a great set with everything!!!
                                Sturdy and well made.
We were so excited to find this set within the price we wanted to pay.
