I like the sound of bands like 311 that use a thinner

Comments about Pulse Piccolo Snare Drum:

The stability of tone would be greatly increased if a more solid-secure throw off was used in place of the plastic, toy-like throw that exists. To test this theory I put an all metal, solid, Piccolo Snare Throw Off on it. WOW.....what a difference. The mounting screws were only off by about 3/16" from the original plastic throw screw holes, so only a touch of drilling was necessary. The stability, and clarity of the snare wire contact is now much more responsive, consistent and stabile (with a relatively inexpensive upgrade). The sound is compatible to my 10" x 4.5" 100% maple popcorn-piccolo custom built snare drum now. My next upgrade is the flimsy, recessed buttplate replacement. This will improve clarity, response, and definition by protruding the butt end of the snare wire mount out beyond the bottom hoop to the underside of the drum, therefore making the strap/string mounting more accessible. As it is now, it is slightly difficult to slip the snare wire/strap into the buttplate to secure against the drum's bottom head to ensure the most responsiveness.
Overall, the drum is well worth the money. If you buy it and play it, it will be ok for a while. With no upgrades, I would not expect the throw off and/or buttplate to last under live performance stress for long. This will allow the snare wires to stretch and quickly be rendered useless, thus requiring constant replacement and "tinkering". Therefore, invest in the upgrades to prolong life and sound quality.

Great for the price.Change the heads when you get it. The throw off is plastic. The one I recieved had a wood shell instead of the steel one in the description.Over all it is an ok snare drum. Sounds good and looks nice.

What a great little drum for a steal of a price! Biggest problem was the heads, snare side split while I was tuning which really just made me laugh because I'd planned on using a remo ambassador snare side. Also put an Evans genera on top, could not sound better. The throw off is rather cheep but for the price the drum is worth it for a side or main snare.

                        Not just a backup snare...

Comments about Pulse Piccolo Snare Drum:

I've had this snare for about 8 years. Mine is actually a previous "generation", if you will. Same steel shell, same throw-off.

I got this snare as a backup, but as the title suggests, this isn't just a backup snare. It has great tone! I wasn't sure I would like it because of the "piccolo" aspect, but this snare doesn't sound like your typical piccolo snare. It has a sharp, bright attack with a medium sustain. It cuts through just about any loudness of music. I brought it to a festival type event and half of the drummers used it instead of their own:) All kinds of compliments on the sound.

I also love the diameter. I like to get in close to my kit and the 13" diameter allows for just a little more wiggle room.

Overall, I definitely do not regret getting this snare. I put about $20 into it including new brass inserts and new heads. Best money I've spent on what was intended to be a backup, yet, finds it's way to the spotlight night after night...
Snares, in general, don't have many features. They either sound good or not. As far as throw off, I really like this one. It may be cumbersome because it "flips" out rather than "slides" sideways. Just FYI.
The shell, hoops, and throw-off have all stood the test of time. The tension rod brass inserts, however, had to be replaced almost immediately.
In spite of it's "cheap" price, this is an EXCELLENT snare for the money!
