They're designed with anti-choke end plates that significantly reduce annoying snare buzz and also allow the player to crank up their snare tension for a tight response without choking the drum. The Speed Release straps allow the player to disengage the snare wires without releasing the straps from the strainer or butt clamps, enabling quick and easy head or wire changes. I have used other Puresound Wires (Blasters and Equalizers) and have to say that of the 3 I own, these would be my least favorite. However, the Custom Pros are a great option to start with if you're in the market for finding a new sound for your snare.

The straps are what really make this product unique. They're not as easy to swap out as I thought, but this could be because I am still relatively new to the product. Either way, the straps are awesome and almost justify the purchase in and of themselves! It's nice that they included an extra clip just in case one breaks from heavy usage.

As for the sound, I was unimpressed. There is definite improvement and some added brightness from the brass wires, but I think these are overpriced for the sound. There is some added sensitivity as well. However, I don't think the sound and sensitivity of these particular wires alone justify the price. I would venture to say that most people would hardly notice the difference between these wires and the stock ones that come on a decent snare ($250+).

What people WILL notice is the snare buzz reduction. Keep in mind that you cannot get rid of all snare buzz! These do the job of reducing it though!

BOTTOM LINE-
I give the Custom Pro's a 3.5 star rating. I would have to recommend Equalizers over the Custom Pros and Blasters. The Equalizers are much more crisp and have even less snare buzz. I also feel that because of the added crisp, the Equalizers are more sensitive and liven up your snare a bit more overall. The Equalizers are also more versatile, as Blasters are generally for louder volumes. However, definitely give the Custom Pros a try. At least you will have the convenient straps that will work for just about any other wire you try!

The brass snare wires are very nice - they improved the sound on my 6x14 maple drum, adding a slightly brighter sound to the warmth of the wood.

But the cotter pin attachment is a poor design - it nearly ruined my last gig as the snares came off while playing. If the strap isn't precisely lined up in the middle of the cotter pin, the pin will slip right through the slot opening! It won't slip through right away, either. It takes about half a song for that to occur, just as you're starting your first set!

Even if you think you have it aligned, the cotter pin could get slightly nudged -- an eighth of an inch is all it takes -- and the snares fail.

Now I need to go back and attach regular mylar straps on the two snare drums I use these on.

Puresound needs to take this one back to R&D and come up with something better...

100% REAL brass snare wires that produce a fanatastic bright tone that cuts through even the loudest musical situations. The 'anti-choke' flanges are a great touch!

Comments about Puresound Custom Pro Series Brass Snare Wires:

I'm not sure why PureSound markets these as "bright," but don't let that deter you. They don't seem any brighter to me than steel wires. What they certainly are is less harsh, and allow you to hear more of the drum and less of the snare buzz. For loudly amplified music you'll want to stick with steel, but for quieter music, and especially for jazz, the brass wires are great.

Comments about Puresound Custom Pro Series Brass Snare Wires:

Many drummers have recommended for me to use a "fatter" snare with more wires for a better snare sound, but after purchasing the custom pro brass, I found the flaws in that recommendation. For one, though a fatter snare does improve the snare drum's sound, more wires means more buzz. With this custom pro, there's hardly any buzz at all, and when I did hear it, a quick adjustment of the snare arm and it was gone without affecting the snare's sound. 2nd, the fatter snares are not going to fit your average snares simply b/c of the size of the pocket and surface area of the bottomhead. Finally, the really easy to use release mechanism makes changing that bottom head so easy. You don't have to remove the entire snare and reset the tension. GET THIS!

This is a very nice snare.
I don't really need the Quick Release feature but I can see its benefits.
The brass snare does have a different sound than stainless ones. It seems to have more detail and snap? Very crisp.
It does also help control snare resonance but as other reviews said, nothing can totally stop that and still sound ok, IMHO.
I am going to compare the weight of my old snare steel snare and this one just to see if there is any significant difference.
It is interesting to me that the brass and steel snare have such different sounds.
The snare is well made and come with nice packaging and clear install instructions

I bought these snares to replace the stock snares on my Orange County 7x13 Chestnut Ash drum. I wanted more snare sound, so I went with the brass and I couldn't be happier. The range of adjustment on these snares is great, the quick release strap is pretty neat, and the sound is excellent.

It took me a little bit to get the snares seated properly on the head, but once I did it was golden.
