i've tried every stick ever made. i've tried every size ever made. my personal favorite is the regal tip 5b nylon tip. loud or soft, fast or slow, it is my preference. the finish is perfect. when the hands get sweaty, grip actually increases, allowing a relaxed, comfortable grip, even when playing at skull splitting volumes. other sticks feel buzzy and uncomfortable. poorly balanced. not these. it's like hitting a line drive right at the center of percussion in baseball- it makes a loud bang, but you don't feel a thing. they are durable, as well. i do a ridiculous amount of rim shots, and these sticks hold up very well.
well, whaddaya know, it's a stick!
they've had issues with straightness and weight matching in the past, but they've gotten much better. in the early days of drumming (when i was a kid), i'd go down to my local drum shop and pull 50 or so sticks out of the bin, and roll them. that would narrow the field down to about 20 sticks, then i would tap them and select the highest pitched among them. that would yield me 1 or 2 pair. they are almost always straight and well matched now.
price doesn't matter (within reason, of course) when the sticks are this good.

These sticks are pretty bad. Everything that drew me to them ended up working against me. The claim that the more your hands warm up the better the grip gets didn't really apply to me. The lacquer on them seemed to make these sticks really slippery and only made them fly out of my hand. These sticks are said to be made of hickory but they feel really light. I'm used to slightly more weighted sticks (pro-mark, vic firth) and these sticks felt like playing with air. I have owned 3 pairs of the 5B nylon and each pair was a disappointment. I STRONGLY recommend going with a brand like pro-mark or vic firth or vater. These sticks really didn't cut it for me.

Comments about Regal Tip American Hickory Drumsticks:
The finish on these sticks is like no other. You can move it around in your hand while you play, but they don't slide around or stick to your hands. The weight is just right for varied types of playing.

Comments about Regal Tip American Hickory Drumsticks:
As a professional musician, great equipment is paramount. Drumsticks just have to feel "right" when you first pick them up. I've been using Regal Tip 5A/5B wood tips for almost 20 years now, and there is just nothing that compares to this day IMHO. I've tried most other brands whenever I couldn't find RT's at certain times, and while they got me by for a time, they never seemed to feel "right." It may seem like such a miniscule thing, but the feel of sticks makes a HUGE difference, and these inspire me to want to play as soon as I pick them up. AND, with the laquer finish, they seem to last much longer than other brands. I give these my highest recommendation!!!!

Comments about Regal Tip American Hickory Drumsticks:
Regal tip 2b just has a perfect feel for me. It's like it was made for me. an extension of my wrist that allows me to pound rhythm out of inanimate objects (ie republicans) whether they like it or not.
Comments about Regal Tip American Hickory Drumsticks:
I've tried many other brands but I keep coming back to my Regal Tip Rock nylon tips. They are the perfect balance of length and weight for my style of playing. Their best feature is the type of lacquer finish they use. The finish actually gets tackier as you play them which means I can hold them loosely even when playing fast and heavy. I've noticed they do have a tendancy to split with heavy playing so if you are a heavy hitter they my not be for you. Hope this helps.
Comments about Regal Tip American Hickory Drumsticks:
the only product there is. (there are no other drum sticks) i dont know what you call what the other manufactures produce, door stoppers?
regal tip jazz are the drum stick, that all aspire to, all other sticks pale in comparison. i have spent over 40 years as a professional musician and have compared all other brands of drum sticks with not on single pair paralel to joe calato's regal tip jazz. from wood selection with matched pairing and advance controlled drying, the balance, quality and consistency of this product has remained light years ahead of the competition. i not only recommend this product, i will only use joe calato regal tip jazz, for the remainder of my lifetime.
if your trying to save money, this not the area to do so.

Comments about Regal Tip American Hickory Drumsticks:
I am a fairly rudimental drummer, so I like a bigger stick (2B.) I have tried other brands and they just don't feel right to me. Most are the right size, but just seem too heavy for my playing style. The heavier sticks are fine if you use them for just snare drum work, but for the all around stuff I prefer a bigger, but lighter stick. Hence, the use of Regal for over 40 years!
Wish they were a little cheaper.
Comments about Regal Tip American Hickory Drumsticks:
I just got 2 pairs of 5A's not too long ago. AMAZING! They are for sure the best drumsticks I have ever played. I used to use VIc Firths, but they broke really easily and I didn't like them. These are so much better. If you're looking for some new drumsticks, BUY THESE NOW!!
Comments about Regal Tip American Hickory Drumsticks:
I have tried every other brand out there, however I keep coming back to the Regal rock nylon stick it is like a natural extension of my hands. I do a lot of rim shots for the pop and I measure how much the band is rocking by how many sticks I break. if you play loud you will break theses stick, but thats the cost of being a working musician.
