      Great Design, Mediocre Quality

      By Brennan-ug64E

      from Oakland, CA

Comments about Remo 5-Piece Practice Pad Set:

I've had this set for a few years now, and I've been pretty satisfied with it. The design is great. I can set it up to duplicate the positioning of my actual kit almost exactly. The pads duplicate the feel of actual drums well enough. They do produce a bit of noise though. Your next door neighbors probably won't hear them, but people in your house will. They would probably still be too loud for apartment use. The one major downside is the quality, specifically the plastic connecting parts. These can break rather easily, and it is a very fine line between tightening something enough so that it won't vibrate loose, and overtightening to the point where it breaks. I have managed to salvage a couple connectors by placing a larger diameter washer between the bolt head and the plastic connector, thus making a new tightening surface. I'm also using one mount from another company since these tubes are the standard size for rack tubing. Also, you can order replacement parts from Remo through your local dealer. All in all, I've been pretty satisfied with this set, but I really wish they would improve the quality of the connectors.

      NOT SO QUIET

      By FrankRizzo442

      from San Antonio, TX

Comments about Remo 5-Piece Practice Pad Set:

These are basically regular drum heads put on top of some 2-3 layers of foam & plastic. These things are NOT that quiet. Not as loud as an acoustic drumset, but still loud enough that someone else in the house will hear them. If you have the funds, you're best bet would be buying the Gibraltar kickdrum pad & like 4 of the vic firth or reelfeel pads for the ultimate quiet practice. & just set them up with snare stands or a small table of some sort. Or invest in an actual mesh or quiet practice pad set. I honestly don't see why anyone would spend their money on this set. I only bought 1 pad & I never use it cuz it's loud. Even soft playing is like hitting a wooden table with your drumstick.

      Loud for practicing

      By Poco Askew

      from Undisclosed

Comments about Remo 5-Piece Practice Pad Set:

I use one of the old style so I can't speak to how well the new ones are made. My main concerns are how loud it is (for practice pads) and the fact you cant tilt the pads to emulate a real snare and toms. You won't be able to practice w/o waking up the rest of your family.

      Poor Cunstruction/Materials Quality

      By IVotedForKodos

      from Boston. MA

Comments about Remo 5-Piece Practice Pad Set:

This thing was awsome for about the first month I had it, then everything broke. Everything is attatched to the frame by cheap plastic clamps with metal screws. Tighten them a little too much, hit a pad too hard, or bump it the wrong way and they snap. The pads screw on only about a centimeter or less. They constantly loosen and fall off while playing and eventually the threading stripped away leaving them useless. I've had this set for a couple months and the only thing left in tact is the frame, bass pad, and one tom. It's a shame because this thing has the potential to be great if it was made better, and for a price thats close to a cheap or used drum set, there's no reason it shouldn't be.

      Padzilla!

      By Billy Fiasco

Comments about Remo 5-Piece Practice Pad Set:

I owned the original version of this set back in the 70's. Beat on them for 20 years until the hardware became worn out. The New Rack Style is outstanding. Both my Son and I use this kit and it stands up to ANY beating we throw at it.

      Excellent practice tool!

      By NYYPT

      from Staten Island, NY

Comments about Remo 5-Piece Practice Pad Set:

I've had this product for about 8 months and I practice with it almost everyday. It's ability to be modular allows you to have infinite set up posibilities. The pads and screws frequently come loose and require re-tightening. This can be a nuisance. This is a good product for beginners. It allows you to hear you metronome very well.

      worth the money

      By Bonnie

Comments about Remo 5-Piece Practice Pad Set:

When I ordered this product, I was concerned that my double bass pedal would not fit. I have a dw5000 and it fits wonderfully. I love this product. It sits in my livingroom and greatly increases my practice time. I have had it about a month and I have already noticed improvement in techniques I have been working on. It would be nice to have extra nuts and bolts as they do tend to vibrate lose as I play.

      Top Value!

      By MaxTheDork

      from Pitman, NJ

Comments about Remo 5-Piece Practice Pad Set:

I bought this set about a year ago, and I absolutely LOVE it. The response is very much like actual drums, and I can practice late into the night without the neighbors calling the cops. Paired with the Pintech practice cymbals, it's a superb set. The rack makes it easily portable, I can move it to a corner of the room when I need my regular drums set up. My only complaint was that the bass drum pad head caved in within a couple weeks; but I bought a new head and a kick-pad for the beater and I haven't had a problem since. So I'd highly recommend buying a beater pad with this set; it's a few bucks that will save you a lot of headaches.

      Pretty good

Comments about Remo 5-Piece Practice Pad Set:

I bought this to use in my dorm room for college and it certainly fits the bill. It's very compact and a piece of cake to put together. Good rebound on the strokes. The only thing I have noticed so far is that the bass pad does not have the same bounce to it that a real bass does. I use double bass quite heavily and find it difficult to keep steady 16th notes on the bass. As for the volume, I'll just say that I can hear my squeaky bass pedal over it while I'm playing. It does create a fair amount of noise, certainly you would not want to be using this in the dead of night in a dorm or apartment. But for daytime practice where some noise is no problem, go for it!However, this is certainly not a replacement for a real set! If you have the money, I would certainly buy an electronic set over this. The Remo practice set does well for itself, but nothing can compare to actually being able to hear what you're playing rather than a series of slightly different *thumps*. But if you're short on cash, this is certainly a great tool to keep up your chops!
