could not use it
The 8.5 bongo replacement head is not placed in the outside rim correctly. It does not fit the 8.5 in bongo I own. I have ordered from this site before and have had no problems with this particular bongo head. I have received two and returned them and I am waiting for the third. Each one I receive is not placed in the rim properly. I have had great communication/cooperation from the customer service department in solving this problem. The first head they told me to keep and shipped me one at their cost but the second was defective and I shipped it back so they could see what the problem is.

I have fallen in love with these heads after previously using Evans plastic heads and skin heads. I play outdoors often in Florida and the sound and feel are terrific.
Comments about Remo Bongo Replacement Head:
I used this head on my 7" macho shell (Meinl FWB400s w/comfort rims). The label on the package will say 7.15", but it will work as advertised, albeit not an exact custom fit as you would get mounting your own head or with the stock heads made specifically for your brand of bongo. The metal ring on the Remo head fit my comfort rim pretty much exact. However, the cuff (ie, distance between the top edge of the shell and the top of the comfort rim) is wider than was my stock Meinl head, so the rim sits a little lower on the bongo (approx. 3/4") causing some sticking issues with the rods (ie, when detuning, the rods stick or jam in place). I added a few extra metal washers to each rod in order to compensate. Aside from the mechanical issues, I like the sound of this head - more punch/volume! The sound is comparable to a true skin head with the added benefit of not being susceptible to moisture (ie, head not expanding and contracting due to humidity). As far as durability, I can not give you any advice since I've only owned the head for under a month. Of course, there is a difference in tonal quality to a skin head, but that is expected this being a plastic head. Again, it's still pretty close in comparison. Overall, I would say Remo did a good job and you should buy it. I hope this helps your decision-making process a little easier.
