      OVERVIEW

Realize the bass drum sound you've always craved.

The Powersonic bass drumheads give the drummer controlled mid-range and low end for the most powerful bass drum sound that's It, right out of the box.

The Powersonic bass drumheads are constructed of 2-ply 7-mil Mylar with two specifically placed internal subsonic dampening rings with External Snap-on Dampening System (ESDS) technology. The two mounted 3/4" internal dampening rings enhance low end without affixing trays or hard-backed dampening materials to the drumhead.

The unique patent pending ESDS system employs snaps mounted directly to the drumhead to eliminate the possibility of vibration. This allows you to easily customize your muffling, feel, and sustain for different playing situations by "snapping" the strategically placed weighted pillow to the drumhead. Also included is the Falam Slam for added attack and durability.

It's November 1st 2009. One year has passed since I put this head on the kit at church and it's not necessary to replace it yet. We lead very contemporary worship services and really rock it out. The kit in reference sees roughly 3 services a week plus rehearsals and really takes a beating. This head has that deep, "punch you in your chest" sound that I was looking for. I use an Audix D6 and tune it so it's almost as loose as it can be. I get a bit of tone from the resonant head but keep that one just about as loose as well. I use the beater patch and a hard beater to get that "click" definition and through the subs and in-ear monitors, WOW! No unwanted overtones. Just sweet, deep professional PUNCH. It really changed the way I play. There is so much more confidence exerted when you know your kick is just knockin' 'em flat out there. It's the best sound I have pulled out of any kick drum in 28 years of playing, touring and recording. And it was easy! I'm here today to research new tom and snare heads for the kit because it's time. But the kick... I'm not touching it. I thought a review may be helpful to someone. I really doubt anyone with a descent kit would regret trying this head out. Thumbs up from Scottie!

I placed this head on a DW 22x20 maple drum with a ported EQ3 and was not that impressed. Way overdampened for my taste. In a closed room, not bad but not great. For a live show not a chance. I ended up removing the button piece and also removing the internal dampening ring and now it is OK on my studio kit that is only used for recording. I would choose something else if you are looking for a dampned head, like an EMAD. My new favorite is an Evans clear EQ3 for a batter and an Evans Eq1 frosted for the front. Place a 4inch port with minor dampening on the batter head and you will be in heaven. My close friend swears by the Emad single ply and the "Retro screen" for the RES if you like the dampened style. I sure someone will say I am sooo wrong but if you are like me and take these reviews to heart, give it a shot and good luck.

Comments about Remo Powersonic Clear Bass Drumhead:

Experimenting with kick heads is expensive. This is another one for the pile. I bought it based on how it sounded on someone's kit, but but my 20" Mapex Orion sound and feel bad. Going back to clear ambassador and a pillow. The Powersonic lacked definition, and had a hard feel.

After using the original remo head w/impact pad on my club kit for 6 years, tried the aquarian super kick II. I broke the first layer head in 2 months, with an impact pad and still used a pillow in the drum. I bought the remo powersonic, wow! I do use the snap on pillow, but it's the first time in years I haven't used a pillow in the drum. Head sounds great has big thump.

Comments about Remo Powersonic Clear Bass Drumhead:

I don't know why everybody is thinking this is the best thing since sliced bread. Let me start with what bothers me the most, the floor mat that you are supposed to attach to the bottom to the domes that are another obstruction to the head. Then the 2 strips of foam that are on the inside of the head that you cannot remove if you want. I don't know how these made it to the market. It sounded like I was beating on a soaking wet cardboard box. I even took the ridiculous clip on piece off and they still sound too dampened. Everybody that likes these must have really bad kits for these to sound good. I put these on my new practice set of double bass Pearl Visions, I thought it was the lower quality set because I have always played on pro series sets ( my Pearl Masters and Tama artstars). I put on some Evans emad 2's and problem solved. They still aren't a pro sound but has some life to them. I bought the heads out of curiosity and the good reviews at the time. The emads are by far a better head and you have more flexibility with your sound. Don't make the same mistake I did.

                Remo PowerSonic Bass Head

                By R K Scobeaux

                from Arizona

Comments about Remo Powersonic Clear Bass Drumhead:

I liked the sound I got using the PowerSonic with an intact Ebony Remo PowerStroke 3 Reso Head - empty Bass.

For me, I found that the Clear was good, but the Coated Batter without the Falam Slam patch and without the Pad - Just the head without help - made for an excellent sound. Enough resonance; enough Beater impact sound with a hard felt beater; just enough pop and boom without boing or excessive boom. An excellent sound without having to resort to using any laundry. Normally, I tension the Reso higher than the Batter, but found roughly equal tension on both Batter and Reso made the combination work for me for most music genre'. PowerSonic seems to slightly accentuate the Low frequencies, which I like very much.

A fine sound out of the box.

A bit different sound, but equally appealing to me was a Clear PowerStroke 4 Batter used in conjunction with a Ported Remo Ebony PowerStroke 3 Reso.
I like the Coated version better -
                Seemed well made
                Good

                Update of my review

Comments about Remo Powersonic Clear Bass Drumhead:

I've had this head for about 8 months and I have no problems with it. If you haven't got good foot control, try using the large heavy Aquarian patch instead of the small Remo to help dampen the center. Or tape it up. I also use the Kick Port tuned high when I want a PS3 or jazz sound. You got to know how to tune too. This is more of a pro head than for a beginner.

I bought this a month ago. It is awful... It gives you a toneless clicking sound. I would only use this head if were playing speed metal or something where every stroke has to be clearly defined. It lacks any kind of tone at all. I hated it. Save your money and buy a powerstoke III instead.

Comments about Remo Powersonic Clear Bass Drumhead:

I guess you could get a tight EMAD or SK round sound out of it, but it seems to meant for a big cannon open sound. I use no pillows or muffling on the resonant head and it works great. The coated one probably sounds like Bonham. I have no problems with the foam or pad.
