The low frequencies bellow out of this thing, and from out in the crowd, it has a fat attack that carries nicely. Great for floor tom batter with a clear Diplomat on the bottom. Throw on a moongel and you should be in good shape.

This head does not sound at all like a calfskin head, a Fiberskyn head does. I have use Renaissance Ambassadors as my snare batter and for my floor tom batter. For the snare, I got a uniquely transparent and glassy tone that sounded interesting with the snare wires tight, albeit a little thin sounding for my tastes. The floor tom application sounded rubbery. It carried the bassy resonance so long that it was virtually unusable, and it's attack was oddly very sharp. There was a weird tonal divergence with the simultaneous tinny attack and huge resonsnace, which made it sound like two different drums were being played in unison. Even as a resonant head, you would still want to dampen it dramamtically. I'd try it for the snare if you're into the described tone.

The Remo Renaissance Ambassador drumhead will really surprise you with its deep, punchy attack and warm tone! The textured surface is excellent for brush work; a nice, smooth swish sound that I prefer over regular coated drumheads. After using these heads on my snare drums, I will never go back to standard coated heads again. Why bother with a coating that will eventually wear out in the middle?!!! I'm amazed that these heads aren't more widely-used in pop, rock and funk! The timbre approaches that of calf heads, to be sure. Very highly recommended! Do try one on your snare!

i just got these heads and wow there amazing. if you like a low tone voice these are for you. there a good all around drum head for drum set concert toms. They can play a lot of different genres like rock jazz or othere stuff. great deal!

Renaissance drum heads are a real treat. I replaced my 14" floor tom on my DW kit with one of these--and I just love the sound. I get a very full big-band/swing sort of boom-boom out of the drum, with articulation that is sensitive to the dynamics of your chops. I'm not sure if I'll look to replace the other tom heads, but for a floor tom, there is no comparison to this sound!

The attack sounds sooo nice and warm, while keeping a controlled sustain with very little ring. These do the trick for anyone not playing straight up heavy metal, where you would want hydraulics, or something a little heavier. Not that these won't stand up to a good beating, because they will! Just give them a chance!
