Skin-like sound.
A warmth, sensitivity, and articulation reminiscent of calfskin all characterize Rennaisance heads. For snare drums and timbales, the textured surface provides excellent stick and brush response that will not degrade under harsh playing. For tom-toms, Renaissance combines the warmth and depth of laminated heads, the clarity and response of coated heads, with the resonance and projection of clear heads. For bass drums, Rennaisance creates a deep, round sound with a low fundamental and moderate attack. Overall, I really like the sound you can get from this, but it isn't durable at all in my experience. If you're planning on not hitting things hard, then this may be the one for you. If you are, move along.
The head sounds pretty good, I got a really nice full bodied pop out of it without sounding like popcorn, which is what I go for. I enjoied the sound and look of the head.
This head broke in less than a week. I played on it three times, two of the three were for less than two hours. It just broke. I'm a heavy hitter, but damn.

this is the most sensitive head i have ever played. it can pick up almost complete snare response 1"-1 1/2" away from the hoop in a ghost note like hit. But this is on my Pearl Philharmonic cast aluminum snare drum. i am not sure if it performs AS WELL on other drums, but i am sure that it makes a drastic difference. as far as durability goes, it is very thin, but i hit pretty hard and it shows no sign of wearing and i have had it for over a year. great product remo!!
