As I was looking over these reviews, I came accross mostly snare-related reviews. However, I am here to tell you that a Coated Ambassador makes for a fantastic tom batter. This head will accurately reflect the quality of your drums.
If you are not an experienced tuner and/or you do not like the natural tone of your drums, this head is not for you.
If you can tune to your drums' sweet spots and you have quality drums, this head will allow your drums to reach their full potential.

I used to think that if a snare drum didn't sound good with a Remo Ambassador on it then it was not a good drum. I was wrong, it was usually the Ambassador drum head that was the problem, not the snare drum. I know, the Ambassador is regarded as the industry standard but just because it's traditionally the most popular head and been around since the beginning of time it doesn't mean it's the best. To me, it's an average snare drumhead, at best. It has always sounded too bright and then sounds flat in a short period of time, no matter how I tune my snare drum. I quit wasting my money on Ambassadors about 5 years ago and now use Evans reverse power dot heads or Evans G Plus 12mm heads which are a little bit thicker single ply heads and the difference is obvious compared to an Ambassador. I will say the Remo CS reverse dot head is very good and that's basically an Ambassador with a black dot on the reverse side, but it's the dot that gives the drum sound more focus and pop and will make the head more durable so to me, it makes a huge difference. The coating on the Remo Ambassador seems to wear off quicker than the Evans G1, which is Evans version of the Ambassador, and certainly much quicker than an Aquarian texture coated head which I've never experienced the coating coming off on those heads and those are decent 10mm batter heads also. I would even take an Attack single ply coated head over an Ambassador. Perhaps back in the 60s and 70s the Ambassador was the best but now there are so many other batter side snare drumheads that are much better.

Comments about Remo Weather King Ambassador Coated Head:
Experienced drummers know that the Remo Ambassador set the standard for ALL drum heads. Yes, there are many quality and specialized heads out there, including from Remo, but Ambassadors are the most versatile, resonant, and for my money durable head available.
I use coated on batter side and clear for resonant side. I play a combination of rock, jazz, blues, Americana, and this is it for me. Need less resonance? Apply a little tape of moongel. Otherwise, the tuning range is outstanding and the quality unbeatable (no pun intended).

Comments about Remo Weather King Ambassador Coated Head:
I started using Ambassadors on my snares 45 years ago. Recently, I bought a Ludwig 13" Black Magic, and although the standard Taiwanese head sounded pretty good, I tried alternatives. An Evans G1 had a nasty ring and poor response. An Evans G2 had the response of a throw pillow, and sounded horrible, with a dead, lifeless tone. I ordered my old standby Ambassador from Musician's Friend mounted and tuned it (with a gauge), and the drum came alive. It's just resonant enough, rimshots are strong with a solid "crack!," and the response is excellent. Fast, hard doubles and paradiddles just fly, unlike the Evans heads. (I use Evans on my toms and bass drum.)
Incidentally, when I ordered this head, I may have accidentally ordered a 14", which is what I got. A call to customer service straightened things out. They overnighted the correct head and didn't even charge me freight. Guess who will get all my Regal Tip business now??

Comments about Remo Weather King Ambassador Coated Head:
I have been using Remo heads for over fourty years. The coating used to stay on for a long time. They are cheaping out with the coating or how much they use now. Or perhaps they are selling seconds as the real deal. The coating started comming off after a few songs at low volume with small sticks and brushes. The coating is afterall critical when using brushes. The prices have gone up and the quality down.

Comments about Remo Weather King Ambassador Coated Head:
These are the premier head for any and all drums, and virtually any and all styles. Put them on stainless steel Ludwigs like J. Bohnam, put 'em on wood Jazz kits like B. Rich..I could go on and on..point is they sound the best at any playing volume...If you prefer 'deader' sounding hard rock type, I recommend deadening rings for toms.
I play hard rock but love the wide open sound with no muffling, Let Em Ring!! Make the guitars have to turn up!!
TRY SOME!!...(I must admit though, I like Aquarian Super Kick for bass drum, best sound ever.)
Pros
- Fantastic Tone
