The other review here is misinformed; you really want to use this head on the resonant side of your kick drum, and not the batter side. In my opinion, it's better to have a little bit fatter head on the batter side, like a powerstroke or a CS black dot and then have the ambassador as the resonant head for a nice bright and warm ring. Unless of course you're playing some delicate jazz or something, in which case you'd better be using like an 18-inch kick max.

This head sounds absolutely horrid. No matter what you do, it always sounds like you're smacking a piece of paper. There's no thud to it, it won't power through cymbals and it sounds even worse miked. It's not durable either. I'm not a terribly hard hitter and it was dented within an hour of playing. And forget about playing double base with this. Just a jumbled mess. This is a cheap head for a reason. Save your pennies and buy an Evans EQ
