I'm with Zach...the fact is, the idea that heads are EITHER batter or resonant is ridiculous. Sometimes you want something to absorb ringing and the other audible characteristics of the shell that happen naturally, and a thicker head can cure those problems. It isn't necessary to use muffles and muting pads on your drums. If you "tune out" the troublesome sounds (either by detuning one or more lugs, or tuning sympathetically batter/resonant heads to cancel the buzz out), you can take advantage of the drum's natural sounds without the need to "deaden" certain qualities. An important part of this is using heads that work well together. I've found that Emperor heads and ambassador heads work well as resonant side heads when it comes to SOME DRUMS. It all depends on the shell material and your tuning style. I use emperors as batter heads with ambassadors as resonant heads on my toms (acrylic shells), and they sound great! Just experiment. And practice tuning your drums! Oi! Drums are a living thing!

I ordered these after growing weary of the dead, choked sound of Pinstripes on my vintage Tama Superstars (6-ply birch) and decided that I required a a rounder, more open sound. A few days after the order (very fast delivery), I recieved the heads, seated them, and then tuned them up only to be frustrated with the very unnatractive, super bright, plastic-like sound they possessed (Now, I'm not the best tuner in the world but I have gotten other heads to sound MUCH better than the emperors). Lol, I actually cut out the oil filled outer rings of the old Pinstripes and used them as makeshift O-rings to down-play the bright ugly sound. I can't tell you what to do, but that was the first and the last time I will ever use clear Emperors. 3/10

These heads are very good for practicing. They can get beaten up easily, but if you do not hit super hard, they will last a good amount of time. I typically always go with Remo because they are reliable and provide good sound.

Comments about Remo WeatherKing Clear Emperor Batter Drum Head:
I was a Remo Pinstripe user, then an Evans EC2 user. EC2's used to have a metal ring, but now they've switched to a black ink ring printed on the head and the black in chips off inside the drum shell. I thought i would try these Emperors and they are the best sounding heads I've played. I thought they might ring more than the heads with pinstripes, but they don't.
Comments about Remo WeatherKing Clear Emperor Batter Drum Head:
basically if you are like the God of tuning drums, then you can make any drum sound good with these heads. i use them for the tops of all my toms, and also for my 13 inch piccolo snare. last forever, sound incredible, overall, pretty much the best head ever.
Comments about Remo WeatherKing Clear Emperor Batter Drum Head:
Theese heads, Like all the other reviews state, truly make your drums sing. I even use one on my snare. (Becuase my Remo Coated Ambassator broke in two. D:) It even makes my snare sound pretty dang good. Great heads, All together. I recommend them.
Comments about Remo WeatherKing Clear Emperor Batter Drum Head:
im am in a hard rock/metal band and i hit hard to cut through the guitars...i have gone through other heads crazy quick that are thinner and more open (i like toms that sing). to me, these clear emperror heads combine the openess/warmness of black suede ambassadors with the durablity of pinstripes, and have a nice open yet slappy sound to them. tune em right and they will make youre toms sing, last, and cut through. without a doubt the standard for toms. like any head just know how to have your drums tuned!
Comments about Remo WeatherKing Clear Emperor Batter Drum Head:
The Remo emperors are the standard heads for your toms when it comes to pop and rock music. The clear version gives your toms a good full round sound with great attack while the coated ones add warmness to it. For live the clear ones are just about the best heads you will ever get for rock and pop music. The tuning range goes from low to medium-high. Like other unmuffled heads, the tuning is a very crucial part of the sound your getting. These will last your at least 7 gigs for sure (mine did) if you play with sitcks with normal tips. For sure they are playable after that, but more for the practice side of things.
Comments about Remo WeatherKing Clear Emperor Batter Drum Head:
I had recently made the switch to Remo after using another brand for years. Bought a new drumset on this site and new heads for them including these Clear Emperors for the rack toms. After buying several more heads and trying several resonant to batter head combinations on my 10" and 12" rack toms to try to get similar tones and stick feel, I finally changed the Emperor batter on my 12" and found that it was the culprit. I was on the verge of doing something drastic, like returning the drums, on the assumption the bearing edge on my drum must be defective or something else. Sure cost me a lot of time, effort and money to learn the hard way that Remo might sell you a dud. Great heads generally but lookout.
Comments about Remo WeatherKing Clear Emperor Batter Drum Head:
This is the kind of head that really lets your drums speak. There are no muffling of overtone-reducing devices, so they let your drums say what they gotta say. Keep in mind that, while with a high end kit that's a good thing, on some lower end kits there's a reason to shut them up w/ muffling. Only get these heads if your drums have a naturally good tone and you are an able tuner. On bad drums, these will only emphasize the flaws, but on good drums with a experienced drummer tuning them, they will shine.
Comments about Remo WeatherKing Clear Emperor Batter Drum Head:
Well these are great heads. Ive never been one for the dead sound of pinstipes so i decided to go with something like my G2's that were more, remotacular. Great heads. Buy the RTOM moongel dampeners. they work great. and get two sets if your a studio sound fanatic
