Comments about Remo White Suede Emperor Batter Drumhead:
I love the attack I get from Coated Emperor heads on toms, but I hate that my hard hitting chips the coating off. I love the depth and warmth that Pinstripes provide, but there's a certain bright character that is missing. So, I thought I'd tried this.
I put 12 and 16 inch heads on 3-ply maple-interior Ludwig toms and 13 and 16 inch heads on 3-ply mahogany-interior Slingerland toms. They're everything I could ever ask for. They still look great after long sessions of hard hitting. They still retain a bright character over this time period too. I'm looking forward to using the Ludwig kit out this weekend, and I expect these drums to sing just as well live as they do in the basement.
I would advise that these sounds a little more muffled at low tunings. However, I tune my rack toms medium to medium-high and my floor toms at a medium-low tuning. Therefore, they resonate well, retain some rebound and always rock hard. Totally worth giving a whirl!
