Comments about Remo X14 Coated Drumhead:
I was a bit leery about this head thinking it may sound "boxy' and feel stiff due to the thickness. I was wrong in both respects as it sounded and felt great on the two drums I use it on. I like an open snare sound and I have been a Remo coated emperor user on my 6.5x14 Ludwig supra and 6.5x14 Joyful Noise brass snare. The X14 is the same thickness as the emperor, so the durability is there, but it has single ply charactreistics, a little clearer mids and slightly better response and feel. Under a microphone, you could really tell the difference. The X14 sounded richer, but still retained the qualities of the emperor that I like. It sounds fat, powerful and has nice crispness and a great feel. I don't know how it would sound on all drums, but on my metal drums, it sounds great.

Comments about Remo X14 Coated Drumhead:
I have been waiting for this head! Sometimes an Ambassador or CS (even an Ambassador X or Controlled Sound X) doesn't give you a meaty enough sound, but a 2-ply head (such as an Emperor X) is too much and feels too sluggish. The X14 is a perfect middle ground between the two. It has the meat, fatness and control of a double-ply head, but the feel and response of a single-ply head. Ideal for big outdoor shows where a snare can sometimes sound a bit tinny, and ideal for those big 25 lbs brass/bronze/copper snare drums that are difficult to tame. This is a keeper!
Comments about Remo X14 Coated Drumhead:
I think, that there trying something "New" possibly without a lot test/analysis before placing the product on the market. I believe this is not intentional and once again, a little further development will produce one of the best drumheads, to come along with the future still being wide open. The X-14...there going to need some cleaver marketing to restore the belief that they have listened to what we have to say, and will
comeback with a head that meets and beats all of our expectations. Tear it up everyone...
Sound quality was what I expected. If Remo isn't aware of the issue, with the coating lifting on the
head they most likely are by now. I have found the Ambassador X to be the real deal though...I believe
that once the issue is resolved the X-14 will hold up to the hype...
The idea of a new head after all these years, made me want to try it, I think where all long over due
for some changes with Remo. I believe this is one small set back with the coating lifting on the X-14
and they will step up and fix the problem. My advice is try the Ambassador X the heads so far has great tone and duability.
The price on the X-14 is fair...if you have money to burn, replacing the head twice a month in it's current state of that dreaded "coating lift...works for me, until they resolve the issue.
You have to admit the sound of the head...is top notch until the coating starts to lift, then you get overtones
and you have to struggle to keep it in tune.
Comments about Remo X14 Coated Drumhead:
I bought this to put on an extra snare that I keep at the house. I sometimes bring it along to a show if my main snare head has been on for a long time. I normally play a Coated Powerstroke 3 or Coated Pinstripe. I asumed that since this head is the same thickness as a Pinstripe it would be along the same line, I was very wrong. This head has a much brighter sound and the rebound is tighter. I even tried using a Evans 0 ring, this still did not give me the sound that I wanted.
As for the durability, I am sure it is everything Remo claims it is; although I put the drum away after one practise.
This head might be good for jazz or brushes. It seems very sensitive and projects well. But for other types of music I would be hesitant in using it.
Even though this drum head is 14mil, which is the same thickness as a Pinstripe, it does not have any of the same characteristics. The sound is much brighter than what you would expect from such a thick head.
It is coated, but it might as well not be. The coating does not last.
The coating started to come off immediately. I only played this drumhead for about an hour and a half, it looked as if I had played it for over a week. The coating actually started coming of during the first song. I could see with every stroke where my stick had hit.
Construction is typical of a Remo, but I was very disappointed that the coating came off so soon.
I would not consider this a value since the sound is not what I was looking for, or the fact that the coating did not last longer that two songs.
