For a new tuner like myself, buying the Drum Dial had me biting off more than I could chew. To focus on every single lug that is just a hair off drove me nuts. But once I bought this drum key, it was a breeze to get a great sound. I do have my toms tuned fairly high so I can understand others complaints about the tuning range.Once you figure out how the Drum key correlates with your drum dial, you can tune very quickly. When I found out which spot on the Drum Key tuning Dial correlated to about 79 on the Drum Dial I just pretty much use that setting for all batter heads. I just did all my toms in about 20 minutes. The Drum dial settings are 79 batter, 80 reso and they sound great!Sounds somewhat confusing but give it 30 minutes practicing on one tom and you will have it down pat.

This key is flawed in its design. The torque on a tension lug does not accurately depict the tension of the head at that particular lug. Just because the lugs are torqued to the same spec does not mean the head is at the same tension at each lug. If you must use a drum tuning aid, a drum dial will at least get you close, but even the drum dial requires tuning by ear after. Bottom line is this key DOES NOT tune your drums, and it is only by a stroke of luck if it gets you close.

Comments about RhythmTech Pro Torq Drum Key:

If you want an accurrate tuning tool, this is the one to get. My only negative comment would be that it would be great if the calibrating system on the dial of the tuner were more simple and durable. But overall it is adequate. The increments on the calibration dail is on a small plastic disk that is glued on to the tool. Fewer increments and a more permanent dial would be a good addition, but overall it suits my needs.

This is for my little boy's (6yrs old) Pulse Drum set. It will aid him in learning how to tune his drums right...we start tomorrow...if it isn't up to snuff, I will be back to give further details. Both my son and I believe this drum key is a great aid.

Comments about RhythmTech Pro Torq Drum Key:

By imperfect, I mean that right away you may not like the sound of the particular drum you're tuning. HOWEVER, since all the lugs will be close to equally tightened, you can simply loosen/tighten each one the same amount and reach your wanted pitch rather quickly.

Comments about RhythmTech Pro Torq Drum Key:

This is a wonderful tool for drummers looking for an easy, quick way to get consistent tuning on their kits. It's extremely easy to use, and makes tuning a snap. You can do some additional tweaking to get exactly the sound you want, but as a baseline this tool really gets you sounding tuned and balanced quickly and effectively.

                It just doesn't work

                By

                from Middletown NJ

Comments about RhythmTech Pro Torq Drum Key:

I am abig fan of torque keys for drums and use them all the time but this gadget just doesn't work on anything other than high tensions for snare drums. The design is such that wheel that sets the tension cannot be set low enough for toms and bass drums. It's also not easy to use and working out what number it's set on is difficult. The Evans torque key is far superior in every way - quality, design, function, ease of use.It is possible to modify this key so that it will work, but that involves surgery to give the wheel more room to move. It's easier to just buy the Evans key and enjoy it. Far superior in every way!

Comments about RhythmTech Pro Torq Drum Key:

I really like the idea of this key, but found that it does not work as well as I thought it would. The lowest setting (or notch) on the dial is too tight for tuning larger toms, and only goes tighter. No matter how hard I tried, I could not use this key to even get the floor tom in the ball park - it was always too tight. Used on a 16x16 Floor Tom w/ Emperor Coated (top) Ambassador Coated (bottom)
