I have been kicking the heck out of two of these for 1-1/2 years, 3 to 4 days a week. I play heel up and bury the beater. Mine look a little rough and are pushed in where the beater hits, but continue to trigger perfectly. Very stable using a single or double pedal if setup properly. You can easily grab this off the stage, pedal and all and put it in the truck. I prefer this to my KD-120 and a spare is easy to carry. If you like the feel from this type of trigger, there is nothing any better. Take care.

THE GOODIts real feeling, very realistic, Yay, read on...THE BADThis trigger is way loud. WAY loud, the point of an electronic set is to be quite right? well you can hear my KD-8 ANYWHERE in the house. Plus the rubber that my pedals contact is degrading, It might be heat damage or something from the friction because I am so fast at double bass. I called up the dealer and they do not have replacement rubber parts or even know if they exist.Personally I will be getting a different bass trigger, a quite one

KD-8

I don't know why everyone that complains about double triggers is whining at all. There is a sensitivity option that is super easy to change and takes two seconds in the interface. Anyway, here is why i mostly gave it a 3.5. I play very aggressive double kick. It should be designed to handle anything right? The 2 screws in the back of it that keep the legs at a 45 degree keep falling out of the back of it after a couple days of playing. It drives me nuts. It triggers very well, i can't complain about that. The rubber is wearing away where the pedals hit, that's expected. Just a comment. Anyway, It doesn't stay put very well, so i have my bass amp behind it which works perfect. BUT when i play, the whole thing bends and moves, it doesn't stay put/solid like a normal kick drum would. I use Trick Bigfoot doubles, and they work great on this pad but the damn pad keeps moving all the time. If it was more solid and didn't move when i played then i would be even faster than I've become with my pedal upgrade. I'm thinking of upgrading to the 120 now, it is expensive though :(

Involuntary double-hits galore

By DeepClue

from Ithaca, NY

The unit feels sturdy, and although I find it quite annoying that it grips so hard to the carpet (makes it hard to move), the thing that really gets me about this trigger is its double bounce. Unless your foot is positioned just right, you are likely to get a quick rebound on every hit. Unsurprisingly, the TD-3 module has a setup to ignore doubled hits within x milliseconds (adjustable), but even then it sometimes makes it through.I have bought the mesh one, still waiting to arrive. Many complain the mesh is bouncy; I am planning to try a low tension setup and see what happens.

Great Bass Trigger Pad

By EvBarnes

I have owned this KD8 for over a year now with excellent results. I use a double pedal with no problems. I have a TD-6 so I adjusted the pad sensitivity for the double pedal. If you use a good bass pedal ( I use Pearls Eliminator pedals) you won't have a rocking problem with the KD8. I do recommend that you use a drum carpet on the floor or it will creep badly. I wanted to upgrade to a KD-85 , but I've heard nothing but peoples nightmares with the product. If I do upgrade, it will be with a KD-120.

Excellent Kick Trigger!!!

When my Yamaha DTXpress kick trigger starting giving out and started looking into a replacement I wasn't really happy when I tried out a the mesh head kicks. I have a Pintech ConcertCast mesh head for my snare and it's awesome, but when I tried both the Pintech and Roland mesh head kicks I found them to have way too much bounce. I also found the prices to be a bit much. This KD-8 kick has a great, solid feel when the pedal hits and so far the triggering is right on. It works great w/ my classic 20+ year old Camco pedal. Setup was easy and w/ a few minor changes in the trigger input in the module. Also, the price was excellent for such a great, solidly-built product.

Crap for double kick

By Chazzz

I personally don't like the KD-8 for two reasons. I hooked up my double bass pedals to it and one was loud and the other was too quiet. This trigger is impossible to use Twin pedals! If you plan on using a single kick pedal its fine. Also when using double kick the product is flimsy.

I bought mine about a year ago and its still working great. I haven't used other ones but I've tried others in stores and i still like this one. Over all this is a great kick trigger.

Better than the mesh pads

By Toucan Sam

from Raleigh, NC

I got the KD-8 as a replacement for a mesh head kick trigger. The response from the KD-8 is more like a real kick drum than any other trigger I have played. There is no "springboard" effect like you get from the meshy headed kick triggers. Unlike rigid triggers, the KD-8 is quiet even when using a wooden beater. It's a great product and highly recommended.

So So....

Ask me a question

Decent but in a cheap way. If you have a decent brain, stay away from this kick trigger. It feels good but is unresponsive unless pounded. It also isnt very stable unless set into some deep carpet. I chose to use a regular Roland PD-7 pad for my kick trigger due to its instant responsiveness and solid feel.Great for beginners, not so much for studio or live music.

Roland KD-8 = disappointing

By Will of MALEC

from Superior, WI

See all my reviews

I have used Roland triggers for over 5 years. I had been using two KD-7 triggers up until buying a KD-8 to go with my Pacific 402 double bass pedal. I tried adjusting beater placement, sensitivity, changed patches, I could do nothing to make this trigger perform as well as the two KD-7 triggers did with my Camco pedals. Not recommended.

This thing is the best I've tried

By The dude-pJK1O

this is simply the best electronic kick trigger out there! I just got this about a week ago and have fallen in love with its realistic feel. On other more expensive mesh head kick triggers it is way to bouncy and doesnt actually feel like a real kick drum, but this has just the right feel and at a price like this, your just being mean to yourself if you dont buy it. The only downside I can think of is that there isn't a hight ajustment for the actual trigger. I had to lower the hight of my beaters so I could get them in the center of the pad, but thats just a minor complaint. Do yourself a favor and buy this product now, you definitely won't regret it.

Don't like it

By Jimbo-xY0Bz

from St louis, Mo

I bought this baby because my other pedal fell apart. I got this one home and found you have to just about stand on the pedal to make it work. Adjusted everything I could but still am not happy with it. The price was good, but it just don't work good.

Not Sturdy Enough

By Anonymous

from Undisclosed

It comes with little spikes that go into the carpet as well as velcro, but it still shakes around when you play your double bass pedal fast. It doesn't rock back and forth, it rocks side to side. Could be done better.

kick it!

By Anonymous

Bought this.... love it.... One concern is utilizing double kit pedal. You lose some volume because the beaters impact off center....of course, you can adjust volumes in your module to compensate. Feels unbelievable! I love mine!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
