Comments about Roland RMP-5 Rhythm Coach:

I work out first on a Remo pad because it's worn in the center and the sound clean knock helps even both left and right strokes. Then I use the Rmp 5 with the kick drum, and place it on 32 bar accuracy score and do a paradiddle for 32 bars and then move on to the next. The feed back is most helpful. Whatever minor drawbacks, this machine has so much going for it, that it is worth the small investment to improve your timing.

Comments about Roland RMP-5 Rhythm Coach:

After purchase I realised there is no external speaker, the volume is low, even with the headphones on. Also the pad noise from any tension creates a tone that can be heard at least 50% in line with the electronic noise. It is not silent practice, nor would I call it quiet practice actually.
The functions are good, but the drum sounds especially the snares have too much ring built in. I have tried to get rid of snare ring for years, and they actually put it into an electronic drum ! The pad feels plastic and not at all like a normal drum head. I think for the money, it would be better to buy just a metronome.

Comments about Roland RMP-5 Rhythm Coach:

This thing blows any traditional practice pad away! The tools included provide challenging rehearsal with measurable results. Chops get faster and more controlled. I used it on the road and with a pair of headphones and aux cable, you can play your music along with several sounds or just use the click included. When I'm home, I have it set up as a staple on my kit. The trigger in (1 or 2 inputs) is an excellent addition, you can hook a kick trigger and additional pad to form a simple kick/snare/hat kit for rehearsal. This helps with limb independance and all around performance technique.

My favorite features are the auto up/down to work on speed, the accuracy score for excellent feedback (you're not as accurate as you think you are!) and the quiet count for internal timing practice. These features and many more make this a great additional to the arsenal!

One nice feature I'd love to see is a trigger output, if you wanted to plug it into a TD brain or SPD module as an additional pad. But, I doubt that will happen, not really necessary.

Comments about Roland RMP-5 Rhythm Coach:

I bought this because I'm a beginner drummer and have a lot of trouble with timing. This product is EXCELLENT. As a guitarist, I've used many products made by BOSS/Roland over the years and have always been impressed with their quality. The only unpleasant surprise with the RMB-5 was that I didn't realize I would need headphones or external speakers to hear it. I figured that some sort of an amp would be needed to play it loudly, but I didn't know speakers or headphones were needed to hear ANY sound out of it. (It makes sense now that I think about it, tho.) The other issue was that it didn't come with an AC power cord. It's available separately but I didn't see it mentioned in the "accessories" section of MF's web page. Maybe I just missed it. Fortunately, I was able to use the power cord from one of my BOSS pedals. The RMB-5 came with a 9V battery, though. Despite the few issues I mentioned, I still highly recommend it! It really improves your drum skills!

                Review

Comments about Roland RMP-5 Rhythm Coach:

The Roland RMP-5 Rhythm Coach is a quality product that is in need of just a little more tweaking. I would like to see seperate volume controls for the pad and for the metronome click. I also did not hear any pad noise if my headphones/speakers were unplugged. I could use the product fine with headphones, but I couldn't go any futher. This limits what I can do with the product. With the exception of these things, it is a durable, well constructed snare drum coaching tool.

Comments about Roland RMP-5 Rhythm Coach:

i really love this thing. i use two gibraltar practice pads for my feet, i triggered these and plug them into this, so i can work double bass and some snare work. being able to see if i'm in time is an awesome way to practice. there are so many features i havent even used them all, ive had the product for over a year without any FLAWS. ZERO issues. works perfect. very easy to figure out and no time to learn how to use. this is a must buy and the last practice pad youll need. beyond that i use this to trigger my kicks at live shows with my band. you will love it just buy it!

Best Practice Pad on the market

                By richinjapan

                from Japan

Comments about Roland RMP-5 Rhythm Coach:

Realizing a need to work on timing and stick control, I started looking into practice pads. I started looking at Evans rubber pads, but a need for feedback (when I'm not taking lessons) led me to the Rhythm Coach series. Not having a lot of money to spend, I bought the lower-end RMP-3. I was happy enough with it: it's got a lot of features, and the mesh pad feels great, but in the end I had to upgrade to the RMP-5. The extra pad and metronome sounds really do make a huge difference (for me) -- they're dynamic, and just add a great response to your practice. The extra features of the RMP-5 (over the RMP-3) are also very useful: a timer for extending your practice, the tap function to dial in the timing by ear, external input (plug in and play with CD or iPod), and expandability for a CY-8 cymbal pad and KD-8 kick pad. All in all, I can hardly find fault with except for the price, which is steep. However, I got mine used in great shape with the stand, AC adapter (don't use), and carrying bag (probably never will use), all for $200 which was a great deal. Still, I'd say it's well worth it for the full price.
