Great electronic drum kit

By Harrison Clark

from Kentucky

Comments about Roland TD-9KX2-G V-Compact Series Drum Set:

I was first going to get an acoustic drum kit, but after ages of Internet researching and finding out all that electronic drum kits can do, and also the quiet factor, I decided to go with an electronic.
So I go to my nearest guitar center, which is actually quite far away and try out some electronic kits. I literally disliked every e drum excluding the Roland's. The mesh heads were awesome and the sounds were pretty great too (as good as can be expected from an E drum), the snare on the TD12 was very dynamic which I loved however not as much so on the TD9, it's still very great though.

The VH11 Hi hat is good but could be better, it really needs triggers around the whole cymbal, it's just frustrating if you have a hi hat stand that spins trust me. The snare feels very real and great rebound along with adjustable head tension as all the other pads and is my favorite trigger included in the package. The PD85s (toms) are good but are a little small for my liking and the first week or so you have the kit you will accidentally hit the rims a lot, it gets a bit better though. The ride cymbal while feature rich, isn't without a problem, the bell is stupid hard to hit sometimes. I find myself smashing the bell and sometimes it just doesn't want to trigger. I have been better at finding that sweet spot though. The Crash has no problems as of yet, although can sometimes be a pain to choke. Also worth noting is that MF includes a free extra PD85.(best deal out of all sites bonuses in my opinion).

The module features 90 kits and 10 user kits all of which are extremely customizable, the one pad I didn't talk about, being the kd9 is also good but you will want to go into the module and raise the sensitivity on some pads, namely toms and kick pad.

Really my main complaint is that I wish the rack was bigger, it feels pretty cramped and small. Also the sounds on the module could be more randomized/dynamic (can't think of the right word) Tom rolls sometimes come off as machine gunny and the hits sound too similar. (if that makes any sense)

Anyway great kit and the only e drum I would even want to buy. Good job Roland the mesh heads are killer. By the way this was written on my iPhone, so excuse the poor review structure.
Mesh pads, great module, fairly realistic hi hat, dual/triple trigger cymbals
I can not foresee this thing ever breaking, amazing quality on the heads and everything.
Pretty good value, but definitely expensive, musicians friend made this a much better deal though, with the free pad and coupons.

Comments about Roland TD-9KX2-G V-Compact Series Drum Set:

I haven't had a chance to gig with this kit yet but it's great. I have it setup next to my bed so it's the first thing I see in the morning and the last thing before I go to sleep.

Anyway, I bought this kit over the new model because I really like the sounds that are built in. You get the 100 kit/new software upgrade. It sounds great at low volumes. I also really appreciated the discount I got on this kit compared to the newer model. This one also will tab out what you play in real time. It's really useful for practice because you can visually see if your snare hits are off compared with your bass drum or hi hat. Great for me being a visual learner. My playing has already improved. I like to use these kits for more practice because they don't annoy anyone

    Expensive, but good

Comments about Roland TD-9KX2-G V-Compact Series Drum Set:

If you are looking for electronic drums, these are pretty good, I wish the cymbals were easier to mute but they work. I am happy with the VDrums, but the amp is expensive and they sound terrible on a bass amp, you will need a PA system, a VDrum amp or a keyboard amp.
The extra Tom is nice to have, but the 8" pads are still difficult to hit when playing fast.
Good quality, but I have mostly played acoustic drums in the past.
    Very expensive, good quality

    Roland is Roland

    By Christopher Karpel

    from Rocky Mtns

Comments about Roland TD-9KX2-G V-Compact Series Drum Set:

Love the kit! I purchased the TD-9 and combined it with my existing TD-4. Now I have as much flexibility in my e-kit as I had when I used to destroy my hearing with acoustic drums. Extremely satisfied with how the kit sounds and how it plays.
As usual, this TD-KX2-G lives up to Roland's reputation for quality engineering and high performance. The mesh pads are great (even better with the free one MF threw in) and the TD-9 brain is a definite step up from the TD-4 I already had.
    It's Roland. 'Nuff said.
I know you pay more for Roland, but there are clear and compelling reasons for that. Everything fits together, everything works as it's supposed to. The engineering quality is evident throughout. And the prices have dropped recently on these kits.
