Fun to Play, Comfortable to Use, and Great for Practice.

The Roland TD4S is an electronic drum set that is a pleasure to play. With Roland's patented mesh V-Pad snare, the TD4S drum set is ideal for practice, thanks to its Mix in function, Coach Mode, and Quick Rec. Roland TD-4S electronic drums are also a great choice for the project studio, with improved sound quality and expressiveness, and MIDI output for sequencing or triggering other sounds.

        TD-4S Drum Module
With 4 times the wave memory of its predecessor, the Roland TD-4S Drum Module is loaded with great drum and percussion instruments and kits. Drum kits can be customized with virtual tuning and muffling for the kick, snare, and toms. Natural ambiance effects can be adjusted as well.

        Custom Controls

Drum sounds onboard the Roland TD-4S can be customized to suit your personal style. Just like with a real acoustic drum set, the TD-4's kick, snare, and toms can be tuned up or down quickly across a wide range. The amount of muffling can be user-customized as well, from '70s-style choked funk to open-cannon stadium rock.

        Coach Mode
The Roland TD-4S is equipped with Roland's acclaimed Coach Mode, which helps you build speed, stamina and accuracy. Five skill-building exercises are onboard, including the new Warm Ups that lets you practice different exercises consecutively for 5, 10, or 15 minutes. The Tempo Check also helps you keep consistent time by lowering the metronome volume when you are playing accurately or vice versa, and raising the click volume when you are playing out of time.

        Quick REC
The TD-4S drum set's "Quick REC" feature allows you to immediately record and play back your performance. It's a great tool for listening objectively to what you've played, and charting your progress. And don't forget the TD-4's built-in metronome for keeping yourself in time. If you record with the internal metronome on, the TD-4 Electronic Drum Set can even evaluate your accuracy afterward during playback.

I previously owned a Roland TD-12 V-Drum kit and sold it to pay some bills last year -- I was really sorry I parted with that kit until I saw reviews of the new TD-4S. I saw demos of it on the Roland site. I just had to get one because the price was right and it looked like Roland came up with a much better rack system than the TD-3S predecessor. In short, I've had this kit for a little over two weeks and it rocks -- dare I say that I like it even better than the TD-12 kit which retails for 3X as much? I like the hi-hat better on this kit than the VH-11 and find it more responsive. I also thought that I would not like having the rubber pads after having an all-mesh setup, but I actually like them BETTER and get more stick action. I don't mind having only 25 pre-configured kits because you can still customize your own sets as much as you want. I've also messed with the metronome and rhythm coach feature -- all good.A couple of things to mention -- the control unit in the center under the toms is a little hard to access and the various jacks should have larger type so you can see what's what -- however, I believe you could move the module to a different place on the rack if you wanted (the cables seem long enough to do so). Also, I highly recommend a good drum rug because the hi-hat pedal and bass pedal will start to creep as you play. If you are on the fence about buying this kit -- I'd say it's money well spent for Roland quality.

I bought one of these to keep the noise down for my aspiring son since he has a new sister. It is a good toy for 3-12 year olds to learn on. Even then, though, perhaps ought to buy something less expensive. You are only buying the name on this one -- although it is still made in China.

        Cheap for a Roland

        By Anonymous

        from Undisclosed

Comments about Roland TD4S Electronic Drum Set:

I've owned this set for a week; and I must say, it certainly met my expectations. I was debating whether to get a higher end Yamaha, or some other brand; but I settled on going for a lower end Roland. So far, it's fantastic: incredibly responsive, very good sound, easy to set up, and you can customize the hell out of this thing. I'll definitely be writing another review in a year or so, after I've beaten this thing for a while. I'm looking forward to seeing how it holds up!

        Amazing drum kit

        By MistyMarionBand

Comments about Roland TD4S Electronic Drum Set:

I waited one and a half year to write a review of this amzing drum kit and I can tell you that the experience has been great. No problems so far although I give it a lot of use and abuse. People are always amazed of how good this sounds. I have upgrade my kit with the extra cymbal and changed the snare (to PD of 10") and the toms to the PD-85 (all used), so it's now all mesh and the feel is incredible. Also, I found on the internet the center tube (I bought a pair of 20") to give better support in the middle and had no problems with the lenght of the cables. Th 25 presets is all you need because you can customize them with the 125 sounds in the module ( I only use two of them). We recorded our first album with this kit. However, we couldn't get the MIDI to work on ProTools, so we recorded by adjusting the mixer.

        Excellent but....

Comments about Roland TD4S Electronic Drum Set:

This drum set, the features are excellent, but i am just quite fussy abt it, firstly, there shld be 2 normal ride programmed inside instead of one medium ride and lite ride, there shld be also a dark ride, same as the hi hat, there shld be a dark hi hat as well, secondly, i tried shifting the pipe which holds the module above the 2 pads and the whole rack is not sturdy which resulted in complains from my neighbours, but other than that, module screen is great, pads are great also, overall good value for $$ drum set.

        works great for me

        By Stuart-RW1SA

Comments about Roland TD4S Electronic Drum Set:

I played acoustic drums long ago, but even I know that acoustic drums aren't suitable for a 3rd-floor apartment. I bought the TD-4K (since discontinued?) at Christmas time 2009 and I like it a lot. It was easy to set up, no electronics problems (in fact no problems at all), but it took forever to get everything adjusted right. (And beware: even though I used headphones all the time, the neighbors downstairs started complaining on the very first night. A 3/4-inch foam exercise mat didn't do the trick, but then I found at the Roland forums plans for a simple platform made from a piece of plywood resting on a couple dozen tennis balls. (Google "roland noise tennis balls".) I used the single-piece of plywood variation: it cost about $35 to build, $20 for a 4'x4' piece of 3/4-inch plywood and $15 for tennis balls, and apparently it works. At least, it's been a couple of weeks and the -- woman -- downstairs hasn't complained.)I can't tell you if it's good for recording, barrooms, or MTV. I can tell you I'm having fun. That's 100% goal achievement.

        Awesome Kit

        By Drummerboy5

        from Atlanta

Comments about Roland TD4S Electronic Drum Set:

This set is built to last. Everything is very durable and I've been playing on them for about 4-5 hours a day for 3 days already. This kit has so many options to do. Plus I think it's more fun to play than an acoustic kit. With a good pair of headphones (which I have and you should too), this kit sounds great! The snare is the best part. It feels better than my regular snare with the cymbals and toms not too far behind. If you have the money, I would upgrade the toms to the mesh ones but if you don't (like me), then don't worry about it. The included rubber toms are great too. I'm planning to add an extra cymbal to make this kit even better. This set is worth every penny.

        High hat problems

        By Jason--8w2B

        from Kentucky

Comments about Roland TD4S Electronic Drum Set:

I borrowed a new set for a recording project. The snare sounds were really nice. Tom sounds not too bad. Kick sounds were limited but very useable. The only problem I found with this kit was the hats mistriggered quite often. They don't accept anything faster than 8th notes. I actually plan to buy one of these kits in the near future. I plan to use the kick and brain in conjunction with my acoustic set and cymbals for recording. However, for latin percussion or practice time, this set is fine the way it is. Definitely worth the money.

        My new Roland TD-4 Kit

        By Dustin-MfsgK

        from California

Comments about Roland TD4S Electronic Drum Set:

I have had my kit now for about 5 days. I'm a guitar player but as a hobby I record my own material and figured why not have a bass and drum set and bring it all together. While I have ZERO experience to draw from to give an educated review of this set...a few friends who are drummers and who've played for many years sat down and gave my set a try and they were impressed...most especially with the realistic feel of the snare. The different pre-programmed kits sound good, but I plan to use sample software because I'm looking specifically for a hard rock/metal sound and the Steven Slate Drums software seems to deliver that. The only extras you need to buy are a throne and a bass kick pedal. I got a double pedal by Pacifica? which seems to work just fine so far. Overall I'm impressed with my new toy.

        compact doesn't mean restrained

Comments about Roland TD4S Electronic Drum Set:

I bought this set about a month ago, and I am extremely pleased with my purchase. It is well worth the money, and a great set for people like me who need to play drums in a dorm or play quietly in a garage at 3 in the morning.Pros: - Relatively inexpensive for an electronic set- Mesh snare- Realistic pads for hi hat and 2 other cymbals (w/ choke capability)- 25 different kits- Versatility and ability to create your own set sounds- Easy, easy setup, like drum setup for dummies easy- You can play quietly in a small space!!!Cons:- Not many good preset sets- Rubber toms (not a big deal though, you can still roll on them pretty comfortably and quickly)- Kick pad doesn't work well with double pedals; not loud enough when beaters are off-center- Kick pad moves alot and can be weak and aggrivating at times, esp. w/ heavy double bassHowever, the benefits of the set realllly outweigh the hassles involved with it so I'd definitely reccomend it to anyone that needs an electronic.HOWEVER i must add that electronics shouldn't be your first choice; they don't hever have as much feel as acoustic sets, and you look and feel like a clown playing on them, esp. if its at a gig. But, if you do need an electronic set, this is the one to get.
