Great all-purpose cymbal

By zimbop

from Southwest

Comments about Sabian AA El Sabor Splash Cymbal:

I bought this cymbal to use as an all-purpose cymbal for a mini/cocktail kit. It's fantastic. The crash is very nice, the bell is fantastic, and it actually rides pretty nice for such a small cymbal (gets nice distinct notes without washing out). It's great for the cocktail application, and it would also be very good for an accessory percussion set-up, especially since it's meant to be played by hand or stick. It's a little heavy to call a splash in all honesty, so for a small crash cymbal it's quite good.

MY FAVE CYMBAL

By Richard Hunter

from New Orleans

Comments about Sabian AA El Sabor Splash Cymbal:

So if U are in the market for a durable all purpose crash cymbal that can double as a splash--this is the cymbal for you..........
I have now owned this cymbal in excess of 5 years--and I must say it is my favorite cymbal. I bought it with the intention of using it as a splash--but found that it is versatile enough to use as a crash cymbal. Thus is the range of this little beauty. It is perfect in low volume situations and if not played too heavily could cut through in louder situations. I used it in both and it works to perfection.

Comments about Sabian AA El Sabor Splash Cymbal:

If you're just looking for *white noise* like what most splashes make, then buy a splash that's 10" or smaller... this really isn't the cymbal you're looking for.

I've had this splash since 2006 (it was made in a natural finish like the crash is, which i dont think they do anymore), and it's been my most used and trustworthy cymbal since. I'm a multi-percussionist as some would say, so I use this when I'm playing djembe, cajon, or congas. I pair it with my 18" El Sabor Picante Hand Crash, and sometimes with just my K Hybrid 13.25" Hats. This is a pretty awesome combo, especially since I'm mostly just using hands. It's very articulate, but in a louder situation it definitely needs to be mic'd... hands just aren't as hard as sticks afterall.

The true revelation came when I moved this "salsa" splash to my drum kit set up. When I hit it hard for accents it's like a small concise crash (i love to pair it with a rimshot), and when I hit it medium to light, it's a splash that has way more wash than any splash should... in a good way.

It's so versatile that it has made me into a more creative musician. Don't be scared away by the "salsa" in it's name... it just means "sauce" in Spanish. With this cymbal you're putting some extra sauce on the beat you're playing!

It can be played in a jazz setting, definitely a rock or funk setting, of course in latin music, and even in drum and bass music... just look up Jojo Mayer, the splash all the way to his right. I don't play metal, but I'm sure it'll fit right in. Seriously, you will not regret buying this splash. If mine ever cracks (i'm surprised it hasn't. it's very sturdy), I'm buying another one right away.

Comments about Sabian AA El Sabor Splash Cymbal:

Certainly one of the best all around punctuation cymbals in the business. Lightly hit or otherwise, it elevates the traditional pie plate sound of your typical splash to crash level enunciation without revealing even a whisper of harsh or shrill character. It opens and closes quickly with a musical full wash when struck solidly and a bright yet modulated hissing ping when flicked on the downbeat. However, it never exceeds its authority in your cymbal hierarchy. By way of example, at 13 inches it fits flawlessly one notch below my 14 inch A Custom in all respects. I would say it is a splash by volume and a crash by nature. If you're looking for that classic splash effect I'd recommend looking elsewhere. (Maybe a K Custom Hybrid at 11.5" - a real class act for sure.) Otherwise, I highly, highly recommend this cymbal for any style of playing. (He's a stout and admirable little fellow with a lovely voice!)

I use it in a Latin Percussion setup, but it can translate to drum set easily. It has a little more body than a traditional splash, but the same qualities of tone. Great inbewtween cymbal!
