Comments about Sabian AA Holy China Cymbal:
I haven't personally used a lot of different, high-end china cymbals - the only ones I've used are a 16" Wuhan, an 18" Zildjian ZBT, and an 18" Paiste Sound Formula prototype. The Paiste was crafted well, but all three had a very "trashy" tone stereotypical of china cymbals, and while they certainly sounded distinctive, they didn't seem entirely "full." With that being said, I have listened to a lot of different chinas from various studio recordings and live gigs, and this is without a doubt the best china cymbal I've ever heard. As the description notes, this one is LOUD - no joke, it may be the loudest cymbal in the entire Sabian catalogue! I have the 21" in the traditional finish, and it struck me right away how dark this cymbal's tone is - and it's truly explosive and full sounding as well! The holes offer a quick decay, and I imagine the smaller sizes offer an even quicker decay alongside a brighter tone. I've only owned this one for about 4 months, but from what I can gather it's incredibly durable. I can be a heavy hitter, but you don't have to hit this cymbal very loud for it to cut - it frequently drowns out my other cymbals even when hitting it half as hard as the rest of my kit! Simply, if the music scenario asks for a china cymbal, this is the one to get. It's dynamic, versatile, and simply looks great. I'm not a sucker for signature products, but kudos to Chad Smith and Sabian - this cymbal is a masterpiece.
