Ok...let me get to the point of why I bought a 16" and a 18" Sabian AA Metal-X...I AM A CAVEMAN DRUMMER--even using my wrists properly and not my arms to strike the drums and cymbals! I guess that is the way it is when you are 6'6" and 225lbs and have hands that look like they should be on BigFoot, not a human. Nevertheless, these cymbals can take the beat down. I am known for killing lower grade cymbals within 4 months, and these are the only ones able to take the force I use just naturally when drumming. However, be warned, these cymbals do not have a cheaper "clanging" sound or sound real bright like a studio cymbal. They are in-between mixing the "beauty" of a cymbal with the "beast" of a cymbal. They have a nice punch when you strike them, but the vocal sustain of the cymbal is not extremely long. Therefore, the cymbals are not too loud but loud enough. I rate their value at a 7, however, due to their price. They are hard on the wallet but sweet on the stage. Buy'em...

I had the 18" version of this cymbal. My band Credence plays a diverse style of metal, kind of like Job for a Cowboy mixed with As I lay Dying. Either way, I hit kind of hard. This cymbal sounded very good when I got it, but three months later there was a 2 inch chunk missing out of the edge of it. If you want a great sounding cymbal for a style that doesnt hit very hard, this is the way to go. But if you want something more durable, go with some Z Customs.

Comments about Sabian AA Metal-X Crash Cymbal:

The first one i had of these was great and lasted for 4 years before it finally broke. It was medium/thick and was great for using as a crash/ride with a good bell. However, the second one i got seemed a bit thinner and though it sounded about the same lasted about a year. The next one i was going to buy i skipped on because it felt even worse. granted i hit my cymbals pretty hard, still a good cymbal.

Comments about Sabian AA Metal-X Crash Cymbal:

Sabian AA Metal X cymbals have a medium sound, not bright, and not dark. They sound best when played at medium and louder levels. They can be very loud when you need it with a nice medium tone. I've been using a 18" for 5 years now in Metal, Punk, and Grunge Bands and it's still going strong!!! Meanwhile I've ripped through 3 Zildjian Cymbals, but all my Sabian AA's are going strong!!!!

Comments about Sabian AA Metal-X Crash Cymbal:

I've owned this cymbal for a year now and it has performed above my expectations. It has the response and tone I like in a main crash. The ONLY downside is the thickness makes it hard to do subtle builds but, that is no fault of the design. The bell gives a great tone being that it's unlathed with a brilliant finish(much like the AAXplosion and HHX Evolution crashes, which I also own). As for durability, I can't see why all the broken cymbals in these reviews. I lay into my cymbals fairly hard and I've barely left a mark. The only explanation to me is poor technique. Any cymbal is going to break if you straight bash it with no regard to the actual stroke. In conclusion, these have a great balanced and bright tone and will last forever if you know how to hit 'em.

Comments about Sabian AA Metal-X Crash Cymbal:

i have the 19 inch, and its perfect for metal! it fills the room with sound, yet isnt to harsh on the ears. it has a long sustain, and a great bell and a icey cool tone. its perfect for crashing but not for accents because it doesnt open too fast. this crash feels like a tank, and i doubt i will ever break it (i treat it like my baby). maybe other people just got a bad batch cause this crash will take a beating

Heavy hitters don't buy.

Comments about Sabian AA Metal-X Crash Cymbal:

Technique 4 hiting cymbals is really in the eye of the beholder.....(Does Tommy Lee Hit the Cymbals Right? LOL)....but if your a heavy hitter this is not the way to go. I'm a touring rock drummer...and I play drums 4 a living...always on the road..these will break super fast with the rigours of the road.

Comments about Sabian AA Metal-X Crash Cymbal:

Rings very smoothly when leading with it, solid crash when just hitting it. Very good cymbal, this is the cymbal that turned me on Sabian. Sabian is my favorite brand. Also a good bell sound for improving the bell of a ride cymbal.
