Ok...let me get to the point of why I bought a 16" and a 18" Sabian AA Metal-X...I AM A CAVEMAN DRUMMER--even using my wrists properly and not my arms to strike the drums and cymbals! I guess that is the way it is when you are 6'6" and 225lbs and have hands that look like they should be on BigFoot, not a human. Nevertheless, these cymbals can take the beat down. I am known for killing lower grade cymbals within 4 months, and these are the only ones able to take the force I use just naturally when drumming. However, be warned, these cymbals do not have a cheaper "clanging" sound or sound real bright like a studio cymbal. They are in-between mixing the "beauty" of a cymbal with the "beast" of a cymbal. They have a nice punch when you strike them, but the vocal sustain of the cymbal is not extremely long. Therefore, the cymbals are not too loud but loud enough. I rate their value at a 7, however, due to their price. They are hard on the wallet but sweet on the stage. Buy'em...

I had the 18" version of this cymbal. My band Credence plays a diverse style of metal, kind of like Job for a Cowboy mixed with As I lay Dying. Either way, I hit kind of hard. This cymbal sounded very good when I got it, but three months later there was a 2 inch chunk missing out of the edge of it. If you want a great sounding cymbal for a style that doesnt hit very hard, this is the way to go. But if you want something more durable, go with some Z Customs.

      good cymbal craftsmanship going down

Comments about Sabian AA Metal-X Crash Cymbal:

The first one i had of these was great and lasted for 4 years before it finally broke. It was medium/thick and was great for using as a crash/ride with a good bell. However, the second one i got seemed a bit thinner and though it sounded about the same lasted about a year. The next one i was going to buy i skipped on because it felt even worse. granted i hit my cymbals pretty hard, still a good cymbal.

      for more than metal

Comments about Sabian AA Metal-X Crash Cymbal:

I have the 18" and 20" crashes and love them both. bright, warm crash and sing quite fully together. I'd been using the 20" to crash/ride on, the bells on both are beautiful, it's become my main crash after picking up a rezo ride. these can be used in just about any style of music, though they aren't by any means dark or dry so I guess jazz and swing guys might not like the sound. 45 days, you've got nothing to lose, I'd suggest one.

      explodes with tone

Comments about Sabian AA Metal-X Crash Cymbal:

I LOVE my 18". I quickly found myself playing it more than my 18" hand hammered Dream Energy crash. the bell is amazing, the sounds this cymbal can make are incredible. light taps, full crashes, bell patterns, this crash does them all wonderfully. It could easily be used as a crash ride but if you're looking for a bright, glassy, breakdown ready tones, this is the cymbal you want to be hitting.

      Great Cymbal!!!!!!!!

      By Arkansas Drummer

Comments about Sabian AA Metal-X Crash Cymbal:

Sabian AA Metal X cymbals have a medium sound, not bright, and not dark. They sound best when played at medium and louder levels. They can be very loud when you need it with a nice medium tone. I've been using a 18" for 5 years now in Metal, Punk, and Grunge Bands and it's still going strong!!! Meanwhile I've ripped through 3 Zildjian Cymbals, but all my Sabian AA's are going strong!!!!

      Sabian 17

Comments about Sabian AA Metal-X Crash Cymbal:

I've owned this cymbal for a year now and it has performed above my expectations. It has the response and tone I like in a main crash. The ONLY downside is the thickness makes it hard to do subtle builds but, that is no fault of the design. The bell gives a great tone being that it's unlathed with a brilliant finish(much like the AAXplosion and HHX Evolution crashes, which I also own). As for durability, I can't see why all the broken cymbals in these reviews. I lay into my cymbals fairly hard and I've barely left a mark. The only explanation to me is poor technique. Any cymbal is going to break if you straight bash it with no regard to the actual stroke. In conclusion, these have a great balanced and bright tone and will last forever if you know how to hit 'em.

      Exactly what i wanted!

Comments about Sabian AA Metal-X Crash Cymbal:

i have the 19 inch, and its perfect for metal! it fills the room with sound, yet isnt to harsh on the ears. it has a long sustain, and a great bell and a icey cool tone. its perfect for crashing but not for accents because it doesnt open too fast. this crash feels like a tank, and i doubt i will ever break it (i treat it like my baby). maybe other people just got a bad batch cause this crash will take a beating

      Not for hard-hitters.

Comments about Sabian AA Metal-X Crash Cymbal:

I bought this cymbal about 3 months ago. It is already starting to crack in 2 places. They might be small but if I were to continue playing it, it would be two huge cracks. It sounds fantastic, but not a long-term cymbal for hard-hitters.

      Nice but not the best

Comments about Sabian AA Metal-X Crash Cymbal:

I own both the cymbal packs 2-16" crash 18" crash 22" ride 10"splash 17" crash and 14" hi hats and a china forget what size it was..All of the smaller cymbals out lasted the larger ones. The hats soud great but I still use zildjin A customs as my main hat.The 18 crash busted shortly after I bought it as did the 17 not much longer after. The china lasted mabey 4 months. The 16"s have held up the best just having 1 crack after 2 years the ride is one of the best Ive ever heard.I think the shipping has alot to do with the way these held up the bolted them together with a 1/2" bolt and tightened the crap out of it,metal to metal.I wouldnt buy in the packs due to this but i have bought singles and they seem to last longer.all in all great sounds and seem to last as long as you get a good set not shipped the way mine were.

Very Good. Hit or miss though

      By EmbersFromTheAltar

Comments about Sabian AA Metal-X Crash Cymbal:

I've had the 18" for almost 2 years. Sabians are VERY VERY great cymbals and I've been a solid user for many years. Truthfully, looking at these reviews, I see that the cymbal can have a reputation for beaking, which mine did, but i think I have seen that it is possible to get one out of a bad batch. I had a Metal-X splash that cracked a couple weeks after receiving it. I ordered another of the same kind with the warranty and I've had it for 2 years with NO problems. Some do good and some dont. Still a very strong, very heavy, VERY good sounding cymbal. I'm going to get another one.
