    Expectations

Comments about Sabian AA Metal-X Diablo Splash:

I decided to add some real cymbals to my electronic kit. I played accoutic drums for years but its unrealistic to play when I want and live in my neighborhood, keeping the neighbors up not to mention my own family, hence the move to electronics. But after a few months I just couldnt live with the rubber cymbals and lack of control on the sounds, so I decided to begin adding back the real thing piece by piece. Since I love the accent of splash cymbals I wanted to add 2 or 3 of these to the kit. Saving money for weeks to be able to buy can be frustrating, but I have to buy gas and food, so searching for crazy deals is a must. The deal I got from M.F. on this cymbal is undeniable. Its a quality made cymbal, of the higher end models, and its a splash. Granted its 14 inches which should give away that it wont have that high pitched, quick ping of say a 10 inch splash, so I expected this going in. I also Youtubed a video of someone demonstrating the cymbal so I felt confident in what it would sound like. Higher and quicker than a small crash.Well, I got the cymbal in today and I am impressed with everything, EXCEPT the sound. Its just a crash cymbal, not a splash sound by any stretch of the imagination. This wouldnt be bad, except that as a crash sound it is too metalic and quick to fall into that category. Basically I am having trouble deciding what application to use this cymbal in. Perhaps it will just take some getting used to, but I just dont care for the sound. Its just odd, out-of-place, clunky, not a splash, not a crash, not even unique enough to be an effects cymbal. My advice is to insist on listening to one in person before buying it, no matter how deep the discount. My overall review of the cymbal: ..eh...
