Bright and warm, with a defined piercing bell sums up this cymbal. And it is versatile too. It does not crash very well as it sounds like a gong when you do so, but for a ride it is great. It records crisp and clear and you can hear that AA warmth through and through.
After five years of playing on the same ride, I did decide to purchase another ride, a Zildjian K. The two are vastly different and I couldn't say either of them were better than the other. That's something because the K rides are often twice as much as these. They hold their own and I still use this AA ride as my main stand-by, unless I'm doing a jazz gig or a worship gig, then I'll bring the K.
I would say to anyone that they would enjoy this ride at least well enough to hang onto it for awhile, unless you play strictly Elvin Jones or other classic bop/jazz. It does not sustain enough and pings too much for traditional jazz. Everything else though - A+!
I have the 21" version which is a bit less common than the others. I played it in a store on Christmas Eve, the store was about to close, and I decided to buy it. What sold me was the bell. The bow has a nice warm spread without sustaining too long. The sound spectrum falls between a ping ride and a warm jazz ride. It definitely has the signature 'AA' sound. The bell is suited perfectly for rock bridges and choruses, and of course metal songs. It's a rock ride all the way, except the bell 'warmth' is replaced with a high-pitched 'chiing!'. A very balanced cymbal.
I have had hours upon hours of woodshedding and gigging with this cymbal, and it has not dented, cracked, or worn. There is a little keyholeing which is my fault for not using a top felt and spinner, but I am confident this cymbal will outlast me.
This ride is comparable to most other rides in this price range. I can't say it's the best value ever, because at the price you can get some very comparable rides. If you are looking for a versatile rock/metal ride however, this may be your ticket.

I had first purchased this cymbal and had to send it back because of a pretty impressive dimple in the alloy near the edge. Got a replacement and loved the sturdiness and sound of the cymbal... However, after playing on this cymbal for only 2 months worth of rehearsals (no actual shows), it cracked. We'll see if a replacement will last a bit longer, because I've never had a Ride crack so quickly.

Comments about Sabian AA Metal-X Ride Cymbal:
I recently picked up the 22" model and have found more attributes to like about it every day. It has the "direct" ride sound that I prefer. Bright tone is accented by the oversize to create a balanced sound, much the same as the bell which is bright but fist-sized to create a deeper ping. All this creates the perfect universal ride for myself. However, if your going for more darkness and/or overtones, such with jazzy rides, look more toward hand hammered or at least a thinner model. For me it doesn't get any better.

Comments about Sabian AA Metal-X Ride Cymbal:
This is one bada** cymbal. Not only does it look great, but it sounds great as well. It's got a great bell sound and a nice ping as well. It's pretty heavy which is good (for me at least). Out of all the rides I have used over my 15 year career, it's by far the best I have used yet.
Comments about Sabian AA Metal-X Ride Cymbal:
This is one of the best rides I have ever played on. It has such power and pressence. I play everything from smooth jazz to death metal and this ride comes along for the ride with me. It can be played with any musical setting. The bow and crash are very bright and loud, the bell has a great ping and I love how it is unfinished, it just adds more tones that this ride can produce. Overall, buy it, it is absolutely amazing.
Comments about Sabian AA Metal-X Ride Cymbal:
This cymbal sounds GREAT, but, its a little bit expensive. It sounds especially great with nylon tipped sticks. You get a nice clicky ride sound along with a steady ring. It sounds great. I like it, and it looks good.
Comments about Sabian AA Metal-X Ride Cymbal:
This is a decent ride cymbal. The bell is great, but the bow is just so so. It isn't very loud and it sounds like you are riding a crash. If you usually use the bell, and just the bow every once and a while, then this would be a good choice. If you are getting a ride for the bow, with just some rare bell hits, then I would go with something else...

This thing is amazing... i got it used of this kid and i totally feel i riped him off... im a prety arrgessive and loud player and the ride should some trew and the bell is awesome... it is the best symbol over all i own
Comments about Sabian AA Metal-X Ride Cymbal:
I have had this cymbal for about 3 years now, and it still sounds the same as when i first got it. Whatever sound you need, whether it is warm tones or a nice ping, this cymbal will do it for you. The bell is huge or at least it seems like it(im pretty sure i have a 22incher). It rings for a while, but not too long, and will cut thru anything.
