I have owned the 14" Sabian AAX Studio Crash (standard finish) for nearly 2 years now, and from the day I bought it, it has been my absolute favorite cymbal. I have owned or tested plenty of other professional Sabians and Zildjians, but when it comes to moderate or soft playing, this one blows them away with its beautiful, warm, washy tones and incredible low-volume response. Following several months of improper storage and transport, my little AAX has developed a tiny radial crack in the bell, but that's my fault for not padding it properly. Luckily, Sabian's warranty program offers pretty much unconditional replacement if a crack develops within 2 years of purchase. I hope the new AAX Studio Crash Sabian sends me will be as good as this old one... it just seems incredible that a cymbal can sound so good, and so hopefully my old one didn't just happen to be an exceptionally good example.

The 17" AAX Studio doesn't hold up against my 18" HHX Evolution and not even against my 18" Zildjian Z Custom Rock Crash. It sounds thin and splashy, lacking body, punch and volume. Frankly, I don't see what all the good reviews are about. Perhaps mine is not a good example of an AAX Studio, but I won't be trying another one, I'll be returning it.
I expected it to sound a lot better based on what I was hearing in Sabian's youtube videos that compare all of their crashes.

Absolute magic!
They are so clean and clear with a mid-sustained shimmer, almost sounds like they were engineered on a computer.
Great for any application, suits pop / modern rock/ funk the best.
Comments about Sabian AAX Series Studio Crash Cymbal:
Whether the tone of any quality instrument is considered "good" is a personal decision. For me, it took years to discover Sabians. Once I did, it was like discovering the answer to how many angels can dance on the head of a pin. If you are going try out Sabian cymbals I recommend that you go to their website and read the descriptions of the different series and models. The descriptions are beyond helpful.
Comments about Sabian AAX Series Studio Crash Cymbal:
Excelent for me... quick response, full sound, shimmering.. (18 inches)
It has a fast response, good volume (and its studio!!!)... not too dark and much presence...
Excellent... great sound, mine is an 18 in brilliant finish
may be too priced for some people..
Comments about Sabian AAX Series Studio Crash Cymbal:
I have the 15 inch studio crash. That cymbal is by far the best crash cymbal I've ever played. I gives a beautiful bright, full, rich sound that any drummer can enjoy. I've had this cymbal for a while now and it is still in great shape. Sabian really outdid themselves here. By this cymbal, and you won't regret it.
Comments about Sabian AAX Series Studio Crash Cymbal:
This cymbal is great! I have the 14 inch version and its super thin and has a good response. This crash sounds great when accented after a small splash. I don't think theres a specific style/genera for this cymbal, but i think its a great rock crash! Try it out at a guitar center or at friends but i bet you'll love it!
Comments about Sabian AAX Series Studio Crash Cymbal:
Typically a Zildjian guy I tried the AAX studio crash 19" and liked it. It falls in tonaly right in between my AAX 18" Dark crash and my Zildjian K 18" Dark crash. It has a lighter tone than the Zildjian but darker than its counterpart AAX. It has less wash(overtones) than the Zildjian but more than the AAX Dark, its a perfect fit for my sound. It shimmers softly or barks loudly depending on the drummers attitude, it also has a very nice bell for accents and stickwork. I was pleasantly surprised with this one, it's a keeper! I've heard of them cracking but this one feels pretty solid probably due to it's 19" size.Time will tell. I'm fairly agressive but I use light sticks(7a)so we will see. I've only had it a few weeks so look for an update in a few monthsThat's it ! Rock on !!
Comments about Sabian AAX Series Studio Crash Cymbal:
First off I just want to say that this is a great sounding cymbal. Everything about it is amazing except it's durability. I've had for about 7 - 8 months and there's a 1.5cm crack on the edge.
Comments about Sabian AAX Series Studio Crash Cymbal:
This thing is awesome! I've used B8s and AAs before, and this beats all of them.... I got the 16" in natural finish, and it's a fantastic cymbal... It's got a complex sound that's really awesome, and it's nice and thin so it responds well. Also, it looks amazing, better than the picture. Great cymbal!
Comments about Sabian AAX Series Studio Crash Cymbal:
Alright, I've had the 16" and 18" studio crashes for a year now and i have got to say that even though it is a thin cymbal it can take a heavy beating. I use heavy sticks for practice and switch off to smaller sticks for shows, but either way i go the cymbals do not, I repeat, do not show any type of give on them. I'm proud to say that these cymbals will be used by me for a very long time
