I have owned the 14" Sabian AAX Studio Crash (standard finish) for nearly 2 years now, and from the day I bought it, it has been my absolute favorite cymbal. I have owned or tested plenty of other professional Sabians and Zildjians, but when it comes to moderate or soft playing, this one blows them away with its beautiful, warm, washy tones and incredible low-volume response. Following several months of improper storage and transport, my little AAX has developed a tiny radial crack in the bell, but that's my fault for not padding it properly. Luckily, Sabian's warranty program offers pretty much unconditional replacement if a crack develops within 2 years of purchase. I hope the new AAX Studio Crash Sabian sends me will be as good as this old one... it just seems incredible that a cymbal can sound so good, and so hopefully my old one didn't just happen to be an exceptionally good example.

The 17" AAX Studio doesn't hold up against my 18" HHX Evolution and not even against my 18" Zildjian Z Custom Rock Crash. It sounds thin and splashy, lacking body, punch and volume. Frankly, I don't see what all the good reviews are about. Perhaps mine is not a good example of an AAX Studio, but I won't be trying another one, I'll be returning it.

I expected it to sound a lot better based on what I was hearing in Sabian's youtube videos that compare all of their crashes.

Comments about Sabian AAX Series Studio Crash Cymbal:

I have the 15 inch studio crash. That cymbal is by far the best crash cymbal I've ever played. I gives a beautiful bright, full, rich sound that any drummer can enjoy. I've had this cymbal for a while now and it is still in great shape. Sabian really outdid themselves here. By this cymbal, and you won't regret it.

Really good but not for heavy music

Comments about Sabian AAX Series Studio Crash Cymbal:

First off I just want to say that this is a great sounding cymbal. Everything about it is amazing except it's durability. I've had for about 7 - 8 months and there's a 1.5cm crack on the edge.

      Absolute magic!
They are so clean and clear with a mid-sustained shimmer, almost sounds like they were engineered on a computer.
Great for any application, suits pop / modern rock/ funk the best.

      Amazing

Comments about Sabian AAX Series Studio Crash Cymbal:

I've been using all types of cymbals, and I've never really settled on one company, at some points I've had Paiste, Ziljdian, Sabian and Istanbul cymbals, but I was pretty sure I wanted a pair of Zildjian A Customs, so I bought a 16" and a 17" Zildjian A Custom, and hated them. I traded them in for a 16" and 17" AAX Studio, and couldn't be happier.

      Very Good Cymbals

      By TayeDrumr1290

Comments about Sabian AAX Series Studio Crash Cymbal:

I have owned this cymbal in the 18" version for a few months now and can say that I have been nothing but impressed by it. It has a very crisp dark sound with relatively long decay. This is a very different contrast of sound if you own any of sabians brighter sounding cymbals such as Xs or AA. Overall a very good purchase if you are looking for a darker sound and a very high quality cymbal.

Use a set of them live; two 14", one 16", the 14" hats with a 20" HH classic rid. they sound great, better than Zildjian, in my opinion, and are a better value than the other brands.

      Had to have it

      By Anonymous

Comments about Sabian AAX Series Studio Crash Cymbal:

I work at a music store and when I heard this 16" cymbal after tapping a couple crashes in stock, I had to have it. I've got a 16" AA thin crash on my kit already that this bad boy is going to replace. It blows the AA completely out of the water! The overtones are so much nicer - the AAX has so much character that it makes my other cymbal sound bland and cheap. I already used it at a practice and it mixed sooo well with the band, I was thrilled. And it compliments my 18" K dark thin crash perfectly!

Comments about Sabian AAX Series Studio Crash Cymbal:

I purchased two AAX Studio crashes, one of 15" and one of 16". Both are simply amazing. The main thing I like about this cymbal is that it isn't too loud and doesn't stand out when compared to your other cymbals. I also purchased the AAX 16" Stage Crash. This wasn't my favorite buy. It projected too much and rang out for a while after hitting it. The AAX Studio Crashes are a much more warm, controlled tone. Not too loud, but not too quiet. They have a nice bright tone to them as well. The only problem with Studio Crash is that it's a thinner style of cymbal. If you are the type of drummer who beats the crap out of your equipment, I wouldn't reccommend these. For me, they're perfect. Overall, I would say that Sabian has created a killer cymbal.

Comments about Sabian AAX Series Studio Crash Cymbal:

Alright, I've had the 16" and 18" studio crashes for a year now and i have got to say that even though it is a thin cymbal it can take a heavy beating. I use heavy sticks for practice and switch off to smaller sticks for shows, but either way i go the cymbals do not, I repeat, do not show any type of give on them. I'm proud to say that these cymbals will be used by me for a very long time

      Just fantastic!

      By JErnstr

Comments about Sabian AAX Series Studio Crash Cymbal:

My drumset is a mix of Sabian AA's (14, 16 thin and 16 extra thin) and AAX's (Studio 14, 15, 16, 17) and I play like Matt Cameron in a Pearl Jam cover band. (obviously I use a lot more cymbals than he does) I mention this simply because it should give you an idea of how well Sabian AAX's hold up. You shouldn't have to smash on a cymbal to get what you want out of it and you certainly don't have to smash the AAX's. I haven't cracked one yet. They will light up any stage in any style of music at the highest volume level! For a long time, the other members of my band would comment on how great sounding and especially how loud they were. If you play low volume, they are perfect for that too. Do yourself a favor and try the AAX's! You won't regret the decision!

I'm an extremely difficult person to impress but this cymbal has done it. I've used it for hardcore metal and rock all the way through jazz and gospel in venues from bars and night clubs to concert halls, theaters, and studios. If your looking for an all around great cymbal with amazing brilliance in response for a decent price, this is where sabian proves its worthiness, I just wish it had a bigger bell.
