My first cymbal, I tried a few in a music store and decided this had the best ride sound of everything in price range. Works as a crash too.
After developing my skills I started looking for more cymbals, and wanted to go with a dark jazz sound, Zildjian.
Well I spent 3 x as much, on a K Dark crash and yes that has exactly the sound I had in my brain, but really too much for a cymbal, if you're just playing at home and recording.
I found a used Sabian 20" heavy ride for 2 x as much, with a cool dark sound and that's great, better than this …However, during recording it does have a sustained ring that is loud.
So for recording, I went back to using this 18" B8 for my ride, because the ring is less noticeable.
So, don't think you're gonna out grow it, dump it.

When I first started I had this cymbal and used it as a crash and a ride. I have had it for about 3 years, still it sounds great and I record with it as a crash and sometimes a ride. I am upgrading my set and getting all new Z Custom cymbals. I have a Sabian B8 Pro Power rock ride and i use that as my "CLEAN" ride, but i use this for playing alot of old IRON MAIDEN songs. It is almost the color of a Paiste Rude crash ride, from all of the use and now it has a darker sound from all of the wear. But I recommend it for beginners.

I've had this cymbal for the past 8 years and two drum sets. It works great as a left hand ride, nice and BRIGHT. I don't use it much as a crash as it is slow to decay. My local music shop is always on me to upgrade but I love its sound. Other cymbals on the set are Bosphores,Zildjain and Sabian, all high end cymbals.

Comments about Sabian B8 Series Crash Ride Cymbal:

This cymbal is not exactly representative of Sabian's quality. The crash ride has too much of a crash sound and not enough ride. Also the bell doesn't cut above the music, and has a bad sound. Fine for begginers, but not for intermediate players, pros or recording.

Works As A Ride, But Maybe Nicer As A Crash

Comments about Sabian B8 Series Crash Ride Cymbal:

I've had this cymbal for about two years now and it's holding up very well. At first I used it exclusively as a ride, then I picked up a ZBT 20" ride. I play in two bands. I found the Sabian worked well for one type of music (grunge/punk) while the Zildjian was nicer for the other (folk rock/singer somgwriter). Then yesterday on a whim, for the folk/singer songwriter group, I decided to set up the Sabian as my main crash, and use the ZBT as a ride, and my 16" B8 Thin Crash as a secondary crash. This setup really clicked!! So my advice is yes, the Sabian will work nicely as a ride, and is durable, but try it as a main crash. It has the warmth, wash, and sustain I've been looking for and haven't found in lower priced crashes from Sabian and Zildjian. After all this crash ride is essentially a medium crash anyway.

My friend who bought my old set (kid set) got this cymbal and even though it is a crappy set, I look forward to band practices at his house just so I can play it, it has a nice low tone to it and sounds great with my set at home, if you didnt look at it it would sound similar to AA's or Z's (Zildjian) its a great deal for a nice cymbal.

Comments about Sabian B8 Series Crash Ride Cymbal:

I just got this cymbal and using it as a crash sucks. it has too much of a ring to it. The bell isn't loud. It sounds a little awkward but it's pretty good for the price. Don't buy it if you want it as a crash sort of ride. the crash on this is terrible. I would recommend this for beginners or intermediate, but definitely not to record with.

Comments about Sabian B8 Series Crash Ride Cymbal:

I got one of these in a cymbal pack about a year and a half ago for cheap as a close out, and at first I was pretty much satisfied with the exception of the bell which I thought was pretty weak sounding from the get go. I played an XS20 ride at a rehearsal last week and realised that it had more of the sound I was looking for, and was still very crashable despite being labeled as a pure ride. I think the B8 would be more effective as a medium crash rather than a ride, and I'd probably keep it around for that purpose, and rate it slightly higher for that type of use.

Comments about Sabian B8 Series Crash Ride Cymbal:

I currently use this cymbal in my set. At first it was very high-pitched, sensitive, and stiff. But I have used it for a year. The crash is much better now. The ride really sizzles. This is great for hard rock or heavy metal, or any kind of music that requires a loud, penetrating, explosive crash. It is well worth the money because this crash is three times better than a regular crash.

Comments about Sabian B8 Series Crash Ride Cymbal:

I purchased this cymbal so I could expand my cymbal set up without spending $$$. I bought this cymbal at a local music store and I really enjoy the sounds it makes. I use it in my band as well as in church services and it always works. I like the ride sound. The bell isn't the best but it can make do. To me, When crashing, it almost sounds like a very large crash(e.g. 20 Inch crash). This is a great multipurpose cymbal... It is a great addition to a cymbal set to crash or ride on... The Zildjian ZBT isn't even close to the quality of this cymbal. If you want a larger cymbal setup but you are on a budget, buy this cymbal...

A lot of closed-minded drummers think/say that a crash/ride is for amateurs. Well I am NOT an amateur and this cymbal is great! Very bright ride with a cutting bright bell and the crash is perfect if you are looking for a heavy sounding crash that won't break a stick or topple a stand. Highly recommended!!
