This replaced my Paiste Signature 21 Dry Ride - something I thought would never happen. Although the Paiste had a great ping and excellent bell, due to it's thickness it really wouldn't crash the way I wanted. I started searching for something to ride/crash on and saw Rich Redmond using this as a crash/ride. I was fearful it may have too much wash for my liking, but it's completely manageable depending on how close to the edge you strike it. The wash is a beautiful, dark and bright mixture that compliments tastefully. The crash surprisingly doesn't ring on for too long, and it sounds great for those moments where you need it. Having always liked thicker, heavier rides, the ping on this thing is nice and the bell is cutting. My hat's off to Sabian on this thing... I've been playing it now for several months and I can't find anything negative to say about it. Great cymbal for my scenario, and it fits perfectly with my AAX Dark crashes.

I had great expectations when I brought this one home. It sounded good in the store, but when I brought it home...or anywhere else for that matter it sounded average, sort of the "this sofa looks hideous when you get it in good light" sort of situation. Too light for a rock cymbal and too bright for a small acoustic setting. I have yet to find a niche where this thing will click. Maybe as an over sized special effect piece. The tone on my model is now that i listen to it tinny, and doesn't agree with my ear. Its very bright and tends to wash out when you ride it for more than a couple bars. The bell is large for a 20 incher, but sounds, weak, thin and is annoyingly high in pitch. I feel foolish for purchasing it.Based on this particular specimen, I wouldn't recommend this cymbal to anyone that isn't Dave Weckl, doesn't fit any setting very well...it is neither versatile nor is it good as dedicated ride for anything I've tried it with...Dave might like it, well he can keep it

Comments about Sabian HHX Evolution Series Ride:

I would never let this cymbal near my kit as a ride, personally. I use it as my right crash in punk, hardcore, and powerviolence settings.
As a large crash, I like this cymbal. It's decently explosive and opens up quickly compared to other cymbals of that style and size. A bit of complexity under the brightness as well.
As a ride, it's very washy and empty. The wash quickly overpowers any articulation you might be attempting with your sticking. The bell is weak, but cool sounding. It sounds super thin.
Overall, as a ride cymbal, it sounds washy and thin, with a papery bell. I can think of a few uses for it but nothing that would make me drop this much money.
Good when used as a large powerful crash for heavier, louder music. Sadly though, AS A RIDE, I would not recommend it.

      Brilliant!

Comments about Sabian HHX Evolution Series Ride:

I went cymbal shopping for something to replace my cheap generic ride. I wanted something thin and dark but with good crashing and bell sounds. I spent many hours trying different cymbals but as soon as the HHX Evo came out I was sold. It does exactly everything I want. Apart from being thin and dark as described, it has a good bell and crash. The range of sounds you can produce from striking in different ways is amazing, easily more than 20.This is a must have cymbal for any professional/semi-professional drummer looking for a unique sound.

      She's a beauty

      By Jack Wade

Comments about Sabian HHX Evolution Series Ride:

This is another cymbal I bought after hearing Dave Weckl play it. I was a bit worried, he's got great mics and great mixing equipment, so will it live up to what I've heard? I was really relieved when it arrived! It's great. Nice mix of definition and wash, although unlike sheet rides, you really need to learn WHERE to hit it as the musical situation evolves. Brilliant for double stick patterns, and the bell is great, just cuts straight for for a nice accent out of nowhere, or hit just at the bottom for funky patterns.Jazz fusion and rock players and even funk players would like it. Swing and Latin players will love it. Although there are more suitable rides for some jazz and funk situations, it certainly wouldn't sound out of place.

      Awesome session/aux. ride.

Comments about Sabian HHX Evolution Series Ride:

I got this ride as a gift for recording a friend's band, and I've had my eye on it for a while. I use it mostly as a second ride on my larger kit, and the bell is indeed killer. Two handed ride patterns feel great, and sound tight. It is a little washy, but makes a great extra crash when you don't know where else to go in the moment. I've brought it in for a late night session with a singer/songwriter, and this thing works like a dream. Not too much ride in the mix, and lays a soft, quilted blanket of sound to the pattern while the bells shows up every now and then to smack you in the face.

      Great cymbal

Comments about Sabian HHX Evolution Series Ride:

When I first bough this cymbal I was skeptical but I was looking for somthing with a good bell that I could crash on if I needed too. when playing by myself it can get a bit obnoxious but I find when playing with a band that all goes away and I cant find a thing wrong with it. Its a little pricy but I think its still worth it.

I am 17, and I bought this ride when I was 15. I even though i was inexperinced at the time, I knew that getting quality cymbals then would save me hassle now. This cymbal rocks, it crashes so easy, and projects with a warm but cutting feel. The bell rocks it can be heard over my friends 250 watt gutiar amp cranked up. I wouldnt play with anything else.
