OVERVIEW

Designed with the Rush drummer!

The Sabian Neil Peart Paragon Crash is a medium weight cymbal with large bell boosting volume and power for fast, explosive response.

Developed with Neil Peart of Rush, Sabian Paragon Series Cymbals blend 2 styles of lathing for a very balanced cymbal tone. Pinpoint lathing creates a narrower groove for a fast, lively response on the top, while the traditional AA lathing creates a wider groove for a fuller, richer tone on the bottom side.

i give it a 9 overall simply because of the price point. however, even full price isn't a loss on your money. maybe i'm just too cheap. but the quality is definitely there.
I own the 20 inch crash. I love how versatile this cymbal is. I play with church bands as well as rocking out on my own. you can thrash it, babie it, hit the bell, hit the edge, and everything in between. this thing will give you so much response. it will cut through the loudest music, but you can hit it super soft and still get a quality tone out of it-unlike the cheaper cymbals where when you hit it lightly, it just sounds like nasty metal. this is truly a thing of beauty. I also love the long sustain. if this is your only cymbal, long sustain doesn't necessarily work in ALL applications, but you can still make it work. it's long sustain really makes it nice for softer, more intimate music, but when you are thrashing, it blends well with the rest of your music and if you end your playing using it, it kind of brings the whole thing to a nice close, easily sustaining the awesomeness you just played into a nice peacful, "aaahhhhh, that was nice"
you can hit this ALL DAY LONG and it won't break. nuff said.
I can't say much for the value since i bought mine used. however, it looks brand spanking new. i can't say i would pay full price for this. However, if you buy this cymbal, even at this price, it will definitely stand out as one of the best in your group. but if the features is possesses is what you're looking for, then the price you pay will definitely deliver the product you want.

I was really dissapointed in this crash. I've been a Sabian user since I started playing 17 years ago. I have the Paragon 22" ride, the 14" hi hats, and the 8" splash. They sound great. I bought the 18" crash and I am completely dissapointed. It's thicker than I thought and has a tinny/metally sound that just has too much prolonged ringing. It just doesn't have that crisp crashing sound I expected when I saw Rush live. I still say the best crash cymbal on the market today by any brand is the AAXplosion or the HHXplosion. Ironically with Neil's line of cymbals, I think the 18" fits in to be used with a metal drummer.

Comments about Sabian Neil Peart Paragon Crash Cymbal:

I bought the 16" and 18" paragon crashes and I couldn't be more satisfied. They have an excellent sound and seem very durable. The quality is definitely there. Some of these clowns reporting cracking cymbals obviously don't know what they're doing,... improper technique. I have been playing for almost 18 yrs. and have NEVER CRACKED ANY CYMBAL. These Paragons should easily last any drummer that knows what they're doing. These Paragons are worth the money, hands down.

AWESOME DEEP DARK CRASH

Comments about Sabian Neil Peart Paragon Crash Cymbal:

Every set, I believe, needs at least a great high pitch crash, 14 inch - 15 inch, a great medium pitch, 16 - 17 inch, and a great low pitch crash, 18 inch. I have an 18 inch Neil Peart Paragon crash and it has a great deep, dark, exotic crash effect. I also think that it makes a great ride cymbal and the bell is one of the very best that you can buy. I have 16 cymbals in my set and am really happy to include this one as my low pitch crash and very most versatile cymbal. IT ROCKS.

Comments about Sabian Neil Peart Paragon Crash Cymbal:

I have the 18" and I just want to warn people, this is a very loud cymbal that you have to hit hard. Its a very thick piece of metal which is awesome for durability and projection, but if you are playing in smaller bars it may be too much. It makes sense... Neil plays in giant arenas and doesn't have to hold back and wants the loudest most powerful cymbals money can buy. When I play a big outdoor show I'm glad I have it. When I play a place where the PA volume isn't cranked, it seems like a bit too much. But I've always liked thin cymbals that exploded with very little stick velocity. This is a quality item tho.. it will not break on you for a long long time.

Comments about Sabian Neil Peart Paragon Crash Cymbal:

Unbelievable depth and tone, purchased the 18" with the 22" ride. both are spectacular with clean crisp stick definition and full balanced tone. Although they mix nice with my current cymbals, I'm so blown away I will swap out all the way around. These cymbals do not disappoint!

Comments about Sabian Neil Peart Paragon Crash Cymbal:

I played on the 18" and it cracked with in 6 months of use. I was really dissapointed because I spent so much money on one cymbal, and it craps out after a few months of use, the funny thing is is that Ive had my B8's for a few years now and they still sound awesome. So why spend so much money on one cymbal that lasts a few months? Its weird because I used 7A size sticks. like some of the smallest diameter sticks you can find. Thats the last time i'm buying expensive cymbals.!!

Not what I was expecting

By RGCGFMT-z11GL

Comments about Sabian Neil Peart Paragon Crash Cymbal:

I had the opportunity to hear the 16" crash in a local shop before purchasing one from this site, but the cymbal was part of the complete pack and the store was not willing to part with it. I cannot describe how excellent it sounded at relatively low volume in the shop. But when I got the cymbal home and on the kit, it turned out to be a total sonic mismatch with my other crash cymbals (19" A Zildjian Rock Crash, 18" Zildjian Z Custom Medium Crash). The cymbal is very "dark" sounding by comparison, with so little sustain that it almost sounds cheap to me. I have had the cymbal for about two months now and while it has grown on me some, I still am not satisfied with it. I have not yet had the opportunity to record it and that will be the true test. Who knows, it may sound fantastic in the mix. At this point, if I got a do-over, I'd likely go for the 16" Zildjian A Custom Medium Crash. It would likely fit in better with my kit.

Comments about Sabian Neil Peart Paragon Crash Cymbal:

I own the 16" paragon. It is very dark, like a turkish cymbal should be. When hit fairly hard, it roars with beautiful overtones. If you can afford these, then this cymbal will satisfy even the pickiest drummer. Very K-zil Sounding!

Comments about Sabian Neil Peart Paragon Crash Cymbal:

I replaced my 17" Z custom Med. Crash after broke it in TWO MONTHS. This thing is awesome. It has the dark sound of the HHX series and has a perfect volume without losing tone when hit hard. Sweet look too. It has Neil Peart's signature on the bottom.

Great Crash/Ride Cymbals

Comments about Sabian Neil Peart Paragon Crash Cymbal:

I have the Sabian Peart Paragon 14" hi-hats, a 18" Peart crash and a 20" Peart crash. I use the 18" and 20" cymbals as crash/ride cymbals. These are dynamic cymbals which, depending on the sticks or mallets you use and where you hit them, deliver a broad range of sounds. These things shimmer. I especially love the understated gold paint. Tasteful cymbals at a decent price.

Was a Zildjian die-hard until now...

By JoeDrummer

Comments about Sabian Neil Peart Paragon Crash Cymbal:

I've played Zildjian A's and K's. Love the 16" and 18" Paragons... you can hit the bejesus out of them and they sound great live and recorded. These are similar to the Zildjian Medium Crashes and can almost be used interchangably but there are fundamental tonal differences that are quite unique. I'm not giving up my 13" K hats, nor my 22" ping ride, but I've replaced by crashes with the paragons as I love the tonal difference... gives my sound a different feel. Be sure to check out the 19" Chinese... OMG that is the best Chinese since the old non-trash-can-sounding Wuhans! Got me one of those to preserve the life of my Wuhan. :)

Comments about Sabian Neil Peart Paragon Crash Cymbal:

Any Paragon is worth all the money. Don't fall for the whole good sounding ceap cymbals because these are the best way to go. Neil wouldn't let these pass through if they werent the best sounding cymbals, which they totally are the best. After buying all these cymbals, next purchase is Neils kit and then JBL Line Arrays!

Comments about Sabian Neil Peart Paragon Crash Cymbal:

I had recently made a leap of faith. I purchased a 16" Paragon Crash because I respect and admire both Neil and his vision. I was very disapointed, I'll stick with my A and K Zildjians, I returned the Paragon, way to much sustain and overtones. Many people give rave reviews, but be advised: They are not for everyone. Sorry Neil!

Comments about Sabian Neil Peart Paragon Crash Cymbal:

I play on the 18 inch. at my church, and its not my favorite cymbal. The sound volume is huge (wich is a good thing) and it doesent seem to wear, but my recomendation is PLAY THIS CYMBAL BEFORE YOU BUY IT!!! It has a very very different sound and feel. Not my personal favorite. But it's dark and you cant play it quiet. If I had the money to spend I would go with a meinl crash or something from zildjian. Most of the price comes from the paragon logo too.

Comments about Sabian Neil Peart Paragon Crash Cymbal:

Awesome cymbals. Crash has a nice dark tone, and the ride has the perfect "ting" i was looking for. The Hi-Hats are really dry and crispy, and could be a little better, but they're pretty good. The Splash is the best splash i have ever heard. The 19" china is too oriental for punk, so i use the less flanged, 20" china. Overall a great set of cymbals.

best series sabian has made

By matt-qKASs

from The home of RUSH. Toronto

Comments about Sabian Neil Peart Paragon Crash Cymbal:

I own a large amount of this line and i find them amazing. For recreating Rush's sound you cant beat them, they made using a very unique process and the end product is one symbol made with 3 different traditional methods. Many people say they are not bright a low sound levels which is tru, but you have to remember Neil has a vast amount of symbal's on his kit which gives him endless sound. so the best way to add a Paragon to your kit is to keep your whole kit Paragon.
