I purchased this product for my children. I figured at the list price given that it would be a decent drum at a blowout price. When I received the product, and open the package, I was totally shocked. The top and bottom rims were visually "egg shaped". The rims barely fit over the shell on one side and there was a gap between the head on the other. The "wood" shells had knots in them, every hole had drill "tear out", and the snare beds looked to have been cut with a chainsaw. the shells had grooves in them from the assembly machines, pieces spliced in where voids were and the seams had an 1/8" gap. I could compress the shell in my hands with the hardware still intact. I am ashamed to even give these to my kids to use as toys. This is not a product I would expect a reputable music store to even consider, much less sell as an "instrument".
When I saw this drum and the price I thought "what have I got to loose?" so I bought one. What a bargain! I just spent 40 bucks on parts to resurrect and old snare shell I had in the basement. It sounds good but the components on the 10 lug Savage wood snare blow it away. After I did my drum tech routine to this snare drum and reassembled it I know it will be one of my favorites. In fact, I like it so much I ordered one of the Savage chrome snares also. If you need an alternate snare drum you won't go wrong with this one!
