    Schalloch

A simple instrument that offers a broad array of tones.

The Schalloch Cajon can add color to your acoustic gigs with exotic bass, tom and snare tones. The cajon, (box in Spanish) which is traditionally used in Cuban and Peruvian folk music, has lately been gaining acceptance in the world music community for just this kind of versatility.

Schalloch's cajon has a front playing surface made of 4/5"-thick Asian ash that produces warm bass tones and sharp slaps. Tension screws allow you to adjust the face for varied slap sounds. The main cajon body is made of Siam oak which creates a strong shell with good projection. The strong rubber feet keep your cajon off the floor for freer shell resonance and also serve to keep the drum from sliding as you play.

    Features

    • 4/5" Asian ash playing surface
    • Tension screws for adjusting slap tones
    • Siam oak wood body

Great product, well built, inexpensive but not junkie. Taking reasonable care this cajon should last for years. At this price, I even feel free to "experiment" with the snares and such. If you have any mechanical ability at all, which most drummers do, you should be able to make this cajon your own and sound just the way you want. I get compliments for my cajon playing all of the time; folks can't believe all of the great sounds I get out of this thing. BTW, my box said "Meinl" on it, so this is the same as the similarly sized entry level Meinl cajon (more than likely). Would be easy and fun to sand off the front panel brand name, tweek it up the way you like, and put your own custom label on the front. LOL
All of the features you would expect. Adjustable "snare" wires; even a provided a small hex wrench and a place to store it inside the instrument. Clever!
Great quality; well built. It is a very well built wooden box! Good materials. Good glueing. Good joints. Nice finish. Practically invisible "friction" surface on top so you don't slide around. Nice strong rubber feet. My first cajon. This is a very simple instrument, I'm not sure what else you could want.
No question here. If you want a cajon for occassional use, this is it. Sounds great! You can tweek the front screws and snare tension to get about any sound you are looking for.

I have been playing the cajon for flamenco and have been jamming out at acoustic sessions. This cajon by shalloch does not have that crisp pop of a snare or great thumping bass sound...When you hit the bass you get a distorted sound that sounds more like a snare.I opened it up to see how they set up the strings and noticed that they put strings running down the whole face of the cajon which does not allow for a good bass sound.I would not recommend this for gigs unless you know how to change the string set up.I ordered one to check it out but was totally disappointed when I played it. So I changed the set up and it's ok. I've played better.

    Sounds good, great price

    By Squier Believer

    from California

    Comments about Schalloch Cajon:

This cajon is a great value, it holds together well (stage life can be rough). Adjusting the snares are easy with the included allen wrench. Just keep the wrench in the hole located inside the body so you have it when you need it (doesn't effect sound or rattle). To get a more bass in your sound, put some painters tape over the snare wires inside near the bottom loop. Then loosen the outer top corners for more sizzle. A 10 cent fix added a lot more flexibility to the cajon's tone.

    Schalloch Cajon

    By Imarocker

    from Upstate, N.Y.

    Comments about Schalloch Cajon:

I knew this would not be a high quality instrument but c'mon, when I received it, the front face plate was buckled and there is no way to get a good bass sound. The snares are strung across the whole drum so, there is no way to limit the rattle. I could not envision anyone playing this with other musicians. The sound quality is very poor.I'm sure anyone could build a box as good or if not better than this. Don't waste your money. Either buy quality or build one with good materials.

    By Modshaman say's

    Comments about Schalloch Cajon:

I got one and use it for earth music and recording. It sounds good, but like some of the other reviews, the snares are tough to adjust and it is quite bassy ..... on lots of recordings it sounds like a FAT old Rocker snare drum . Hey it does the job and for UNPLUGED your a HIPPY........playin dat stuff at the song fests ............It works and works well. For the MONEY just GO FOR IT........... Peace.

A good ingredient to add flavor to your music.

    By Dan-jSL-r

    from Athens, Ohio

    Comments about Schalloch Cajon:

I picked up one of these about a year ago to add a little flavor to my arsenal of drum-stuff, and today I'm using this cajon in more stuff than anything else. It doesn't matter if I'm playing with artists doing Django Rheinhart, Native American Flute, or playing for belly dancers at the local Middle Eastern Restaurant, this handles it. The only thing that's a problem is adjusting "Snare Tension" requires a hex wrench, so making changes to the sound on the fly is right out.

    Great for the price

    By King Conga

    Comments about Schalloch Cajon:

I have been using this cajon for the past 3 months and honestly, it is great sounding, excelent highs and awsome lows, the ony thing is that it would help the quality if it were made of a thichker ply but you realy cant beat it for the price, if youre on a budget I recomend it.

    affordable cajon with good sound

    By dbrown

    from KENSINGTON, CT

    Comments about Schalloch Cajon:

I have never played a cajon before but I have always made beats with my hands and this drum was so easy to learn and sounds good too. Playing hip-hop beats requires more base end and this can be accomplished by leaning the drum back and hitting with your palm. TIP: I think this cajon sounds better when the strings are tighter.

    The Best!

    By Shelnutt

    from golden state

    Comments about Schalloch Cajon:

This, in my opinion, is the best cajon out there. I've played alot of different cajons, and this is my favorite. It features a great bass and snare sound. The only thing I dont understand is the price. It needs to be a lot more then how much there asking for. So I suggest that you buy it before they raise the price. If your thinking about buying one, don't think, just buy this one. It's awesome. There's no question about it, this is THE best cajon you could possibly buy.
