Awesome percussion kit!

Features:

I bought this so could add a percussionist in our church band. Was looking at the yamaha or Roland, but the price was too far out of reach for me.

Quality:

The build is solid. will take a beating no problem, will surely last many years to come... On the other hand the sound quality is OK.. its not bad, but not great either.. but you im sure you will find many usefull sounds(731 sounds).. - Thats what computers are for I guess..

But I do LOVE the step pattern editor on this!! you get 50 user patterns to record. Thats more than enough for my needs! VERY happy! **If your buying it as an extension to your current drumkit- you will find its pretty hard to hit a couple of the pads coz theyre small. but if your using it on its own, should have no problem with it.

Value:

10 Pads + 4 external inputs- 731 sounds- step pattern recording- at this price- UNBEATABLE!!!

Overall:

overall extremely pleased with the product! and very happy that I bought it from Musicians Friend- very fast delivery- perfect condition! couldnt ask for more.

Highly recomend this to anyone looking for this sort of product.

Great and usable samples, good sensitivity, lots of sounds and low price

Features:

This unit, in my opinion, has the best assortment of usable samples of any of the multipads. The SPD 20 is excellent, but those samples, as good as some are, are 12 years old and lacking the sound quality of the newer stuff.  Don't get me wrong, I love and use Roland gear, but this has some features that give it a place in my rack. Having 14 triggers (10 on-board & 4 external) gives it flexibility and the bass and snare samples are MUCH better than the SPD 20 or 30.

The negatives are...* stupid looking individual pad design, (they should have gone with 2X4 rectangular or square pads w/6 external or 2x5 rectangular. The design is cute, but not player friendly. * The bass and hi-hat are wired so a standard 1/4" plug won't give output.  You must use a stereo "y" adaptor (one side) or make your own using a stereo 1/4" jack. * The bass drum trigger is not very sensitive to commonly used pads. * Onboard reverb virtually useless.

That being said, samples for the price, it is a great piece for your rack if you have the need and the space.  With the availability of Roland's new SPS-SX, you could just copy the menu, getting hundreds of good, usable samples, but that piece is much more.

Quality:

Built reasonably well of quality materials.

Value:

I bought mine used. Nothing can compete at that price.

Overall:

In summary, the menu and number of pads are the strong point.  Buy a good effects box and it will be amazing.  It mounts with a standard Roland mount and feels solid when being played. However be prepared for minimal technical support. If you buy it new, get the extended warranty, which will be added to the original one year factory.

Great unit - with one major issue.  So far, not even Simmons can tell me what kind of trigger pedal will work via the kick pedal input.  Unless you'll be happy playing this with just sticks, I would look at other units.

I like the External triggers because with multi setting it makes my snare and bass drums sound like the best in the world, the only problem I have is sometimes the Blue LED goes blank after hitting the multi pads kinda hard and after turning the unit on and off several times the unit comes back normal but I have to reset my settings ?

Does this thing really exist??? I ordered this mid February and the backorder date keeps getting pushed back - the manufacturer's website indicates some recall issues and I finally cancelled my order - based on the fact that Simmons is NOT the Simmons we old-timers know. Simmons name was purchased by Gutar Center and has nothing to do with the original company. Cut your losses and cancel this order. Simmons support never answered any of my emails - there is no other contact mentod available. BAD, BAD BAD!!!
