I bought this to replace a Roland KD-8 kick pad that finally died out after 9 years of constant double kick abuse. I was initially attracted to it's price point, but upon receiving the product and running it through a few rehearsals, I can say that it's definitely worth the money. Because it's a little bigger than the pad it was replacing, I had to make a few adjustments to beater height and beater distance. The attachment point to my pedals sit a little further away than the KD-8, so the beater distance increased slightly. Not a big deal if your playing slow, but after a few 16th note runs you defintely can tell. After the adjusments it plays almost identically to the Roland pad.

I noticed no decrease in volume or sensitivity. I was able to keep the same exact settings on my TD-6 module, so it was truly a plug and play item. The only negative is that I play on carpet, and the frame has no velcro at the bottom to help anchor it down. A few strips of adhesive velcro across the bottom of the frame and problem solved (a total of 10 minutes and five sheckles to fix).

All in all it's shown to be a good value. Time will tell if the trigger mechanism holds up as long as the KD-8, but so far it looks very promising.

I bought this to replace the same model on my original Simmons kit. The original lasted 6 months with regular use 5-10 hours per week of practice. It became intermittent after1 gig. At least they're not very expensive, and work fine for a while, but not nearly as robust as a Roland kick pad I had for almost 8 years,

Bottom line, if you can afford something better, you might want to avoid the premature troubles I've had with this pad.

Comments about Simmons SD Series Kick Pad:

To get any sound out of this thing I had to turn up the sensitivity on my Alesis DM7X Bass Drum to Max! I switched to a Roland Bass KD-8, WHICH WORKED PERFECTLY! The Simmons is now dedicated to a backup unit which I will hopefully never need. Anything good to say about it - it does function. maybe it and Alesis just do not get along.

Comments about Simmons SD Series Kick Pad:

I set mine up as a double bass and it works pretty well, but it does seem a little dead compared to other pads in the Simmons set. This is probably partly caused by the fact that, on a smooth floor, the thing slides around every time I hit a foot pedal. Could use something to keep it in place better. Otherwise great. Simply plug it and play it.

Doesn't Work With Alesis PercPad

Comments about Simmons SD Series Kick Pad:

This trigger doesn't put out enough signal to trigger my Alesis PercPad. I will have to upgrade to a Roland of Yamaha which cost several times what the Simmons cost. Bummer.

I'm shocked that this item does not come stock, because it is so much better even for single kick. GET THIS, if you use double kick!

Comments about Simmons SD Series Kick Pad:

This item arrived to me damage, and the replacement was sent to a place I lived almost a decade ago. Still have not gotten my replacement working pad. I would not want whoever has been working on orders for this company, working for me. This must be costing Musicians Friend more than the items sales price. Very Sad.

      Pro electronic bass tower pad

      By Bryce Harrison

      from Portales, NM

Comments about Simmons SD Series Kick Pad:

This is a good trigger pad for the money. I have only had mine for about a month but i am pleased with it so far. It is wide enough for my double bass pedal wich i was very pleased about. The only complaint i have is that it is very quiet with my drum set. I had to turn the bass drum to full volume and then turn the rest of the set down just a bit in order to get a good mix of sound so it was an easy fix. Over all a good buy if your looking for a sturdy kick trigger that will take a double bass pedal.

      Great kick pad!

Comments about Simmons SD Series Kick Pad:

I just ordered this kick pad to add to my SD9K kit to complete my double bass kit, and absolutely love it. This kick pad has a softer, cushier head and is super quiet! Rebound is the best I've encountered yet...yes, I've owned Rolands TD 4 as well, and the Simmons is as good or better. Now I want to upgrade the stock SD9K kickpad to this one as well...thank goodness they dont cost a fortune! Thanks Simmons, for really great products!!
