Comments about Simmons Single Zone Choke Cymbal Pad:
So let me first say that I LOVE Musician's Friend and that while I had an issue with this purchase, MF stepped right up and corrected it immediately. They were super friendly and did everything they could to resolve the issue. This review is not about MF - it's about the Cymbal. I bought an SD1000 kit and wanted another cymbal. When I saw this become available on MF's site, I immediately placed my order. My excitement was squelched when the cymbal arrived. It looks like the cymbals for the SD1000 kit but there's no Simmons logo where there should be one. Also noticeably missing (and the deal breaker for me) was a choke. The cymbals that came with the SD1000 have a sort of handle on the underside that you grab to choke the cymbal. This has no such thing. Let's be very clear - THERE IS NO CHOKE ON THIS CYMBAL. I guess I could have lived with this and just made it my ride but when I tried that, I found the sensitivity of the cymbal to be awful as well. It was almost impossible to get any consistency from it. I'd be playing a song and it would randomly increase or decrease in volume even though I wasn't hitting it any harder or softer. This cymbal is terrible. The cymbals that came with my SD1000 are great for my needs and that's what I thought I was getting here. Nope :( The search continues...
