The Sound Percussion 5-piece Junior Drum Set is a real drum kit that was designed with the little drummer in mind. Smaller-than-standard drum sizes include a 16" x 12" bass drum, 8" x 5" and 10" x 6" mounted toms, 13" x 10" floor tom, and a 12" x 4" snare.
It also comes with all the necessary hardware: a kick pedal, cymbal and hi-hat stands, and a throne. Complete with a 12" cymbal and a pair of 10" hi-hat cymbals.

First off, I have to say that I orginally ordered a similar less expensive set by another manufacturer. I received a back order notice and contacted Musician's Friend customer support to see when I might receive the set. This was for a Christmas gift so time was an issue. They looked into it and when it appeared my item might not be shipped before Christmas they offered me this set as a replacement. The set arrived about 4 days later and as I assembeled it I found that the bass drum shell had been damaged by the shipper. Another call to customer support and they had me a replacement set 5 days later. I can't express how impressed I am with the service I received.Now that I have my Sound Percussion 5-piece junior drum set assembled, I am very satisfied with the sound and quality. I'm not a drummer so I'm not qualified to give an in depth review of the quality, but this is definitely not a toy set. It has real heads that can be tuned and replaced as needed. I read that the cymbals are not good, but for my 8 year old they are more than adequate. The shels are made out of real wood. The hardware is all steel (except the snare strainer). The pedals are pretty light duty, but are chain driven. This set is an excellent value, and I've never seen service like I received from Musician's Friend.

I understood this would be inexpensive, but this was below expectations. Perhaps if I bought at my local drum shop would have been better.
The sound and size are what I was looking for. It was meant as a 3 year old's Christmas gift. Just the right height for him.

My husband is a very experienced drummer and said this is a very well made set. You have to know what your doing in order to put it together. It does not come with any directions. IF you don't know anything about drum heads, you'll never know how to put them on or the proper way to tighten them to tune them. The cymbals don't have that great of a sound but the drums are amazing.

Product shipped quick, was way smaller than expected. No instructions, so putting together Christmas Eve was somewhat tricky. Snare drum head lasted five hours. I purchased the two year warranty and was given the run around when calling them. But they replaced the head, but it is on back order. All around I would say great for the little one's to start out on but invest in better cymbals.

I bought these for my 4 year old great-nephew. The fact these drums are adjustable was a great selling feature. Not having instructions made assembling the high hat harder than it needed to be. Everything else was pretty straight forward. My buddy, who has played 30+ years, was blown away at the quality of sound from the drums. Yes, the cymbals are lacking. But, that's what parents are for.

We ordered this set for our kids (four and six) for christmas this year. I'm a strings guy but my kids like to bang on things! The box came quickly and shipped for free, not bad at 50+pounds shipping weight. I opened the box, not being a drummer, I was a bit taken back when I looked at all the parts but it only took me an hour or so to put it together. The set was packed amazingly well, as small as possible and with as little styrofoam (three or four 3x3 inch blocks. Everything else was recyclable, awesome! I banged on the drums a bit and they sounded better than any of the junior sets that I have checked out locally. As a side note, no instructions come with this set as to how to assemble it, like I said it only took me an hour to figure it out but if you've never been around drums you might want to watch some tutorials online before you try to put it together.

great kit for the young drummers. i've been playing the drums for a few years now, so i get a little nit picky about certain things like the cymbals and the pedals. i have to remind myself that this kit is for my son, and i have my 8-piece. the chain on the bass pedal was a little too long, but after a minor adjustment it worked pretty well. the quality of the pedals could be better and i can see them as being one of the first things on this kit that will need to be replaced. you can change the drum heads, but i threw some moongel on them and they sounded fine.
Everything you need to help get your child started in learning to play the drums is included, so you won't need to buy everything separately like you would with most kits.
I own the SP 8-piece kit and i have to say that this 5-piece junior kit that i bought for my son has pretty much the same quality of my kit. everything seems pretty sturdy with the exception of the pedals. since my son is only 2, that shouldn't be much of a problem. all in all, this kit looks and feels like it can take all the punishment a two year old can dish out and it sounds A LOT better than when he used to just bang on pots and pans. with that being said, i think i will be replacing the cymbals because to me, they sound like hitting a baking tin with a wooden spoon.
i never knew you could get a complete drum kit for this price and have the same quality as kits in a higher price range. on top of that, this kit comes with everything you need to get started. most other kits only come with the shells.
