Comments about Sound Percussion Labs SP5 Pro Bass Drum:
For me this drum is everything I needed. I could not think of a real good reason to give it 4 stars instead of 5 since I use this just for practice and price was good.
I was in the market for a "22 bass drum to practice with and didn't want to use a practice pad since it's not quite the same. This drum costs just a little more than the gibraltar practice pad and is actually cheaper than the pearl pad! It's a steal compared to the next cheapest drum on this site. It's adequate for practice and sounds good enough to get through a few live gigs.(after putting remo heads on it) I have not used the stock heads it comes with but they don't seem too shabby, the batter skin feels like a 2ply which I prefer to single ply.
Like the pdp kick I use live, the spurs on this drum can extend far enough to ensure the drum does not touch the floor when pedals are attached. This was a big plus for me since I use this drum for practice and want it to feel the same as the drum I use live. The feet on the spurs feel like hard plastic instead of rubber but it's no big deal if the drum is on a good rug with spurs protruding the feet. I have not had any trouble with the drum "walking". Also some of the screws and bolts on the drum were loose so I had to tighten them, again no big deal. The wrap did show some signs of warpage but not too bad especially for the price and not enough to take a star off, comes with a drum key and hoops are metal.
Before buying this I had to lug around the kick I use live from the bands trailer to my home just to get some bass drum practice in. This drum rids me of that inconvenience and does it at a great price!
