I bought one stand to try it out, WOW was i Surprized it held my 20" med Ride cymbal great, with no problems. I loved it so much i bought 5 more. I have not had any problems with any of them.I play all the time. The Value,Quality, and structure of them are GREAT. Also my son plays on my kit to, he plays very Hard Rock drum beats with Double Bass, Hard, Loud, and Fast. For the money you can't go Wrong.

I bought these when I was noob and low on money, so I wasn't exactly out there for heavy duty. I'll say, these were good when I first got them. They held up for a little while and nothing moved - for a little while. Now, a few years later, they're holding on by the simple fact that I haven't fooled with them all that much while I've had them. I've got two, and on one of them I can't make some adjustments because either the thing would break or it's too rigid to move. On the one holding my ride, I've tightened the bolt that holds the boom in place until my hand hurt and it STILL moves back and forth. It also wobbles when I play on ride, and I think if I used the stand for my crash, it would just give up.

Bottom line, if you're really in it to stay, please don't get these. I think if we'd used them in my church or on the road - considering all of the various and frequent adjustments you'd have to make in either circumstance - these stands couldn't withstand it. Go with Pearl if you're looking for something good and PAY SOME MONEY. Nothing is worse than having a stand break on you, especially during performance. Not to mention that once it breaks on you, you'll be crawling back for better hardware. Save yourself the time!!

Comments about Sound Percussion SP880BS Double-Braced Boom Stand:

I orderd two boom stands they both came in well one was a boom stand the other was a regular stand in a boom box.one had washers one didn't. So it wasn't worth sending a cheap stand back i could probably use it down the line.

Comments about Sound Percussion SP880BS Double-Braced Boom Stand:

For the price, this is a very solid boom stand for holding up thin to medium crashes. I have been using one for 2-5 gigs per month for the last year and a half with a 17" medium-weight crash and an 18" crash/ride--moderate extension on the boom and all sorts of wacky angles. Nothing has broken on it yet and everything stays in place without a problem.

I guess if you overtighten the bolts then things will probably strip and problems will follow. Don't do that. I also separate the boom arm whenever I pack the stand so I don't put stress on the head of the boom arm when it's packed and moving (I've had those come off before with other brands/models).

It is very sturdy but also fairly heavy in the gig bag. In spite of this, I recently bought a second one anyway since the first has worked out so well--it's worth the bulk.

There is no counterweight on the boom arm so I don't think it would do too well with heavy rides if you're extending the boom very far and level. The angle adjusters where the boom goes and where the cymbal mounts may not lock-in as finely as some would like. But I'm not overly picky with that and I've been able to place the cymbal the way I want without too much trouble or stress at shows.

Comments about Sound Percussion SP880BS Double-Braced Boom Stand:

A very good value in a boom stand. There are probably heavier ones out there, but I can't imagine why anyone would need anything heavier than this. The price is excellent, but you are getting a no-name brand, if that matters.

I got this stand because i added a couple new things to my set and neeed something to attach them to. My hi-hat stand had all it could hold. This is the first item I have purchased from Sound Percussion and I must say, I am very pleased with it. It is very heavy duty and well designed. Built alot like my Pearl hardware. I will definately buy SP gear again. I highly recommend this item. Thanks SP !
