Comments about Sound Percussion Labs SPA08 Bass Drum Practice Pad:

This practice pad is something I was looking forward to. I practice rudiments on my practice pad and wanted something for my ankle / leg. It does just that.

It's the best way to play without having to sit in front of your kit just trying to build up speed and muscle.

It dosent have a pure authentic feel to it though.

The biggest flaw is there's not enough weight holding down the pad. Although it doesnt slide with good uses of spike ( 3 total ) after hitting the pad it shakes back and forth which throws off any authentic feel a bass drum would offer.

Honestly it needs some kind of weight system to push the top of the pad straight into the ground. I've tried setting it up in different parts of my room and against different objects and even stuck two 10 lb weights on the side of the pad, but without nothing holding the top down, it still likes to shake. The bounce feels a bit fake as well. The pad feels like it's made out of a soft rubber and a harder material would help better.

Now I don't know how other practice pads feel for bass drum but this flaw is major and really hurts your practice.

That being said it still the best way to earn muscle strength, practice rudiments using feet, and good ole snare + bass exercises. Practicing snare rudiments are just as important as practicing with your feet, you don't want one to get too far ahead of the other.

My advice would be to check out some video reviews of the more expensive Pearl bass practice and see if it has this same issue. Than perhaps a cheaper pad would be a better investment. Also the head feels a bit too soft and offer an unauthentic bounce to it.

      Overall verdict 6.5 / 10

      - The soft rubber offer too much bounce
      - The whole set up needs a weight on top to keep the pad still.

      + Good for muscle strength
      + Good for muscle memory
+ It's quieter than playing on your actual bass.

Honestly if you looking to buy snare + bass practice you might as well go with the DW Go Anywhere kit. It's a bit more money but it's all in one. That what I would do in hindsight

Comments about Sound Percussion Labs SPA08 Bass Drum Practice Pad:

Speed exercises, balance and control are just as vital for feet as for hands. Had the mini-rack Gibraltar practice pad setup, but it took too much room. Got this, a small snare stand and a snare pad to work on coordination and conditioning. Overall: good to great. Worth the $$ with a great pedal.

Effective Practice Pad - Good Buy

      By Jamie Makepeace

      from Cleveland, Ohio

Comments about Sound Percussion Labs SPA08 Bass Drum Practice Pad:

Definitely recommended for someone looking for a relatively quiet and effective practice pad to improve pedal skills.
I have had this practice pad for about 4 weeks. At first, I didn't like the rebound of the pad - it reminded me of a bass drum with no hole in the front head.

I removed the padding inside the pad by removing the screws around the perimeter. This didn't really seem to help. So, I used a drill bit and drilled 4 vent holes (about a quarter inch each) in the back of the pad (plastic).

I reinserted the foam padding and reassembled. This has improved it considerably as it feels almost exactly like my kick drum.

It is not tuneable, so don't be fooled by the screws shown in the photos. These are just to hold things together.

I think this pad would work well for double pedals players also. It has good stability on a carpeted floor. I have all three spikes extended including the two on the bass drum pedal. So far it stays put. I don't think I crush my pedal while playing, but I use a moderate level of power.

Indeed a quiet practice with a real feel

Comments about Sound Percussion Labs SPA08 Bass Drum Practice Pad:

      Great Value
I have always struggled to find good practice pads. Prior to purchasing this I use the old fashion white remo practice snare pad and mounted it to a snare stand. This was the closest feel I had found to a bass drum. I mainly purchased this primarily to only use the stand. When I received it I immediately put the remo pad on it and was pretty happy.

A couple of weeks ago I decided to try the pad that it came with and was pleasantly surprised. I couldn't believe how great it felt not to mention how quiet it is. I practice on a low end electric kit but hated the hi hat and bass drum pad it came with.

As for wear that some of the other reviews mention, its still new but looks like it should hold up.

"A pretty good buy for the $$$"

      Works great for me!

Comments about Sound Percussion Labs SPA08 Bass Drum Practice Pad:

I use this pad on a daily basis. It has held up great for the two years that I have owned it. The pad itself does start to exhibit some wear but I haven't really noticed any decrease in feel as a result. Bottomline, its cheap, it is a solid deal.

      It's ok

Comments about Sound Percussion Labs SPA08 Bass Drum Practice Pad:

I've two of these so I can practice my double bass. The feel of them aren't too good because you don't get that rebound like you do from a bass drum so it's hard to keep the double bass going.
