Speaks warm and resonant with a great tuning range.
If you want a great, all-around snare drum this is it! Spaun has done it again with this 5-1/2" x 14" 100% Maple snare. You can crank it high and cut through the loudest situations or drop it down for a great fatback sound. The addition of die-cast hoops brings in a nice brightness and makes for a great crosstick sound. The subtle flat black finish looks great in combination with Spaun's solid brass lugs in satin chrome and the contrasting black die cast hoops.

This snare is great. I bought it at first as a side snare but after playing with it decided to move it to my main. The description is right about cranking it. I cranked it so tight I thought the head was going to break but the snare still has a great sound. The only thing is the snare throw-off is a little weird and had to fix part of it with super glue but otherwise awesome snare.
I don't own this exact snare but mine is similar...I have a 6x14 maple with die cast hoops and 2 2.5" vents. I've had my snare for almost a year now and it has not let me down once. I tune my snare tight and it has a very loud, defined crack with a great tone and amazing sensitivity. Since mine is vented it is louder and brighter than this one will be but it still has a good amount of depth for as tight as its tuned. I absolutely believe that this snare has as wide of a tuning range as its said to have. If you're looking for a great all around snare, this is the one for you. With this snare you get much more than you pay for.
My band is currently tracking our new record and our drummer is using this snare. Its response is excellent, it's nice and bright but without getting rings or hash. It has a nice solid body to it as well. It's a very well constructed snare, and can get as loud as hell when you give it a good beating. Another bonus is the fact that we haven't even EQ?s the drum tracks yet and the snare is excellent as it is. All that is needed is some compression for a punchy sound. If you?re looking for power and excellent tone, I would highly recommend this snare.
