OVERVIEW

Your dream starts here.

The Tama Imperialstar 5-piece Standard Drum Set is the most affordable Tama drum kit ever to incorporate so many high-end features.

With over 40 years of experience, Tama knows what drummers really want. Which is why, no matter how long you've been playing the drums, no matter what budget you have to work with, Tama has the set you need, want, and can afford. Every aspect of the modern drum kit was exhaustively examined and reexamined and then improved before it was accepted as part of the Imperialstar design. Which is why, if you start playing Imperialstar now as a beginner, you'll still enjoy playing it when you've achieved pro-status. That's how good these groundbreaking new drums are.

Only Tama Imperialstar comes with a complete set of genuine Meinl HCS cymbals. These high-quality brass cymbals are made in Germany and are sonically matched so they sound great together. They are even lathed for a more refined tonal character. The set includes 14" hi-hats, 16" crash cymbal, and a 20" ride cymbal.

Tama Drum Shells:100% poplar 6-ply/7.5mm

Poplar wood has been used in making drum shells for over 50 years. It offers a full, warm tone combined with medium attack.

Precise Bearing Edges
A drum's bearing edge is one of the most important components in drum sound. Tama's advanced edge-cutting process provides extremely precise bearing edges”which allow Tama shells to ring openly and fully, and provide a wide range of tuneability, sensitivity, and response.

100% Glued Finishes
Some drum companies only affix their wraps to the drum shell by taping the finish at "selected contact points." At Tama, all wrapped finishes are glued to the shell 100% to eliminate warping, buzzing, or lifting. This process allows the shell to resonate fully and consistently. It's more work, but Tama feels the extra effort is worth it, for a difference you can see and hear.

Original Small Lugs
Imperialstar lugs are 10% smaller than the lugs of Tama's previous Swingstar Series for even greater shell resonance.

Drum Heads
Batter-side heads are made of clear 250 microns-thick film for richer tone and greater durability. Ring mufflers on bass drum heads remove the need for additional internal muffling.

Accu-Tune Bass Drum Hoops
A special-formulation hi-tech material offers lighter weight and faster, more stable, tuning than traditional metal hoops. In addition, since Accu-Tune hoops use tension bolts instead of clawhooks and T-rods, head changes and packing up are a breeze.

Spur Brackets
Imperialstar spur bracket features the same look and style as Tama's high-end Starclassic drums and provides maximum durability and stability.

Tom Holder
Tama L-Rod and Omnisphere tom holder systems have received acclaim from drummers for over 25 years. These systems offer easy positioning, maximum flexibility, stability, and greater sound than standard designs which penetrate the shell interior and can inhibit resonance.

Tom Brackets
The eye-bolt structure is rock solid, holding the toms in place securely.

Comments about Tama Imperialstar 5-piece Standard Drum Set with Cymbals:

I saw that the score was low in the review section. I checked it, and of course, somebody gave it a 1/10 thinking they gave it a 10/10. Now the rating score is low. I checked his comment, and it seems as though he may not be the brightest user.

Anyways, these drums will sing for you. I have replaced all the heads and the snare wires, and they beg to be hit. The kick drum thunders, the toms sing, the snare cracks. Those poplar shells do this kit quite some justice. They may not be maple or birch or bubinga, but expect some serious tone and power from these.
The hardware is all double braced and sturdy. Tama lives up to its reputation with these stands. The pedal is quite responsive, though I no longer use it.
The Meinl HCS cymbals are pretty decent. I kept the hats and ride because they sound fine, but I sold the crash and splash because they're brass, and brass cymbals tend to ring out like a bell and dont sound very good. I replaced and added on to the cymbal selection with a variety of Wuhan cymbals which compliment the set perfectly. All it took was some extra Sound Percussion hardware to mount it all, which is equally sturdy but arguably a better value for the price than Tama's own hardware.
I plan on keeping this kit for a while. It suits my needs and I dont really see the need to spend hundreds more when a good amount of tuning and good heads can make a poplar kit sing better than a maple kit.

      nice drum set!

Comments about Tama Imperialstar 5-piece Standard Drum Set with Cymbals:

THIS DRUMSET IS GREAT, SPECIALLY IF YOU WANT TO START TO PLAY DRUMS WITH SOMETHING GOOD!Awesome drumset, the paint is terrific, the sound of the toms and snare are ok, obviously the more you pay for a drumset, more quality you get( i would recommend you to change drumheads if you want better sound, if would definitely change the whole sound, but is passable, is not a bad sound.). Cymbals are great, meinl cymbals always last for much long. The hardware that features this kit, saves you a lot of money, for a great price and quality: the stands are very well, including the drum pedal, the drum throne, etc.

Comments about Tama Imperialstar 5-piece Standard Drum Set with Cymbals:

Overall this was a great buy and it's highly recomended but make sure that you don't lose that drum key (i'm talking from experience). The toms sound great and even the snare has a good voice. You might want to put a pillow or blanket in the kick to limit the echo. The cymbols sound great on this set too.
Its a tad bit pricy but it does have a splash, ride, and crash. Not to mention everything else you need to play like a throne and pedal etc.
The heads are pretty good if you get them tuned right and you do have to tune them a lot so it's a little annoying
A little bit pricy but a great buy for a first time drummer like me.

Comments about Tama Imperialstar 5-piece Standard Drum Set with Cymbals:

I have played on a Tama Stagestar in the past and was looking for something similar. There are a few options if looking for a 4 pc, but not as many if looking for a 5pc. I like GMS, but they were not in the price range of what I was looking for. I was really just looking for a shellpack, but Imperialstars now only come new with all the hardware with it. I got it for [$], shipping included. That included all hardware and the Meinl cymbals. I did not think that was a bad value. My thought was if I didn't like the hardware I would just use what I already had. I got a kit in Midnight Mist. Not a real wow color but I am happy with it. Haven't had it under stage lights yet but think it will look pretty sharp. I immediately put on Evans hydraulic heads, so can't rate the original heads. With the hydraulic heads they didn't need any other sort of muffling (no rings or moon gel). Bass drum has decent punch. I was less than thrilled with the hardware. It is nice that it is included, but the quality is on the low end and ended up not using any of it. It comes with a bass lift attached to the bass drum, so that is a nice feature, also the bass spurs are upgraded over the old Stagestar I played previously (no longer coming directly through the bass drum). Overall I say the value is there, but from the hardware side you are getting what you pay for.

Comments about Tama Imperialstar 5-piece Standard Drum Set with Cymbals:

I've had this kit for nearly 6 months now, and I love it. I got it in the Ocean Mist Blue finish (it looks much better in person). Right out of the box, it has everything you need to start.
Starting with the kick, its big and boomy. I stuffed it with a pillow resting against the batter head, and though it sounded a bit plasticy (its a factory head, no suprise there), it was good. I replaced the batter head with an Aquarian Super Kick 2 and put a Evans EQ double bass patch on. I replaced the reso head with an Aquarian Black Regulator w/ 4" Port Hole. Now the kick sounds amazing with no need for a pillow.
I have Remo Clear Emperors on the tom batter heads (stock reso for now, planning on getting clear Ambassadors). The toms have that nice rock sound to them.
I put a Remo Ambassador X coated on the snare batter (stock reso for now, planning to get a Hazy Ambassador). It gives the snare a nice crack, though the wires rattle alot. The snare and the toms all have Remo Tone Control rings on which improve the sound alot.
All the hardware is double braced, very sturdy, and adjustable. Knowing Tama's reputation with the Iron Cobras, the pedal is very responsive and high quality, which is saying alot for a stock pedal. I upgraded to a no-name double pedal, though I keep the stock pedal for backup. My throne seat didn't match the stand for it, so Edwards Music replaced it and upgraded me to Tama's high-end drum throne for free, and I love it.
Lastly, the kit comes with a set Meinl HCS cymbals (14" hihats, 16" crash, 20" ride, and a 10" splash with boom arm and mounting clamp). They're Meinl's entry level cymbals, but in my expirience, beat out Sabians B8's and Zildjians ZBT's. The hihats and crash are alright, but the splash is good, and the ride is outstanding.
Overall, this kit combines many high-end features into an entry level kit, and Tama nailed it perfectly. I reccomend this kit from Beginners to Intermediate players alike, or anyone looking to become an aspiring drummer.
A bit pricey, but worth it in my opinion.
