I was really searching for the timbale CRACK sound and this more than provides. The drums are durable and look sharp. I prefer them over roto-toms, the sound is a little more polished. I wasn't too crazy about the single "L" arm mounting/clamp method, so I didn't use it. Not that it didn't work, it did, but I prefer to have dedicated support for my toms/timbales, then clamped off something else. I had to experiment for a while to decide the best location within my rig. I liked them under my hi-hat, close to my thigh, but I guess the timbales are so sensitive, they would ring slightly when playing the high-hat. So I have moved them and they are good. This is an excellent add-on to your set-up, not only for a sharp new sound, but for price and appearance as well.

I wanted to expand my arsenal of drum sounds, and being a Tama fan (and being on a budget), I decided to try these. I took them out of the box, and...The mounting system sucks. It would have been better if it came with a second multiclamp and cowbell-type attachment so they could be mounted separately, but as it is, there is no way to mount them without having one offset (if you want the 6" on the left and the 8" on the right, that is). I like my toms to be vertically flush. They sound completely different from each other. The 6" is high-pitched and cracky with very little/no sustain, and the 8" sounds a lot more like a traditional tymp-tom. There is no flow or continuance of tone.Overall, these are a cheap way to expand your arsenal of sounds. If you have the money and patience to buy the additional mounting equipment, go for it. If you like them, it'll be worth. I, however, found them to look, feel, and sound cheap. I returned them. End of story.

Excellent little drums!

By Anonymous

Comments about Tama Mini Steel Timbales:

I love these things! You can tune them low to sound like toms, or you can crank them, and they'll really cut through the mix. They have a sound reminiscent of rototoms. They are very shiny and look great on any kit. However, the mounting bracket can be a pain. It causes the timbales to stick out too far off the stand. It takes a bit of fiddling, but I managed to get them set up perfectly. The mounting clamp is very sturdy, but it's cumbersome. Other than that, the actual drums are amazing.

Nice Tonal Bark

By Chi Happens

from Brevard, NC

Comments about Tama Mini Steel Timbales:

I bought these to add to my set to play Rush songs without needing to place Moongels on my Pulse Pro Roto Toms (which works like a charm but requires me to be quick between songs during gigs...which I typically am not :) ). They were almost perfectly tuned right out of the box (I think I gave each lug 1/8 or 1/4 turn) and the heads are quite responsive and musical. I placed Moongels permanently on these to make them have that sharp tonal bark you hear in most Rush songs. Because they have steel shells (Roto toms have NO shells), they project a bit more for me. I mounted them above my 10" tom which allows for easy access. The clamp that comes with these is the standard Tama clamp so you can separate them if you wish. The thing I like best about the mounting is that the 6"'s mount is upside down compared to the 8" so stacking them evenly is a no-brainer.

good accessory

Comments about Tama Mini Steel Timbales:

I wouldn't use these as a substitute for "real latin flavor" but they definitely can fake it. I was very impressed with the looks, I was expecting something that looked relatively cheap, but they look great. The 8" does have more tone than the 6" but I haven't replaced the heads or messed with the tuning that much either. One of the better buys I've made.

tamas mini tymps(timbales)

By Duke Terry

from ossining new york

Comments about Tama Mini Steel Timbales:

My new mini tymps have enabled me to obtain an interesting professional latin sound which I could not get with my tom toms and rim shots off of my snare. I have them mounted between my high hat and left tom on a new tama stand with a steeply angled 20" medium ride for easy accesibility for either hand. They look terrific and the price was right. Feel very comfortable using them for both short and medium fills. I'm having fun.

Great Timbales

By Anonymous

from Undisclosed

Comments about Tama Mini Steel Timbales:

I bought these 9 months ago, and I love them. They produce a great sound that enhances my fills. I play in a Jam Band in southern Mass., and these are perfect for what I needed, which was something that could closely simulate an octabon. The only problem witht hese are the head. They dent real easily, and I can't find replacement ones.

Great wa to ad new/ different sound to your kit. I love the versatility of the mounting hardware, (the drums have their own mounts like a regular tom type so you can mount them together or in sepperate locations on your kit).Cool! TAMA is great. The quality is there. They are timbales for Pete

Awesome sounds

By TamaFreak55

from Springfield, MO

Comments about Tama Mini Steel Timbales:

I've had these for about a year now and i love the sound that these things produce. I tune them up real high and they sound amazing. The only problem i had was that because of my high tuning the tension rod got stuck into the lug and it stripped out when i changed the head. So i recommend using a lubricant or vaseline on the rods so they don't get stuck if you want to tune them high. Other than that these things are incredible.
